I wonder where the bottleneck(s) in the approval process lay.

Is it the filing process?

Probably the background check procedures.

And probably whenever Logan feels like going through the applications.
The bottleneck is them sitting on the app doing nothimg with it for months.

It's intentional. There's no real inefficiency to correct.

Even in a GOP controlled house and senate, there are anti 2a GOP members. This happened with the Hudson bill in 2016/17.

IIRC, 3 or 4 GOP voted with the DNC, killing the Hudson bill.

Yeah, and i feel like the house tends to swing away from the presidential party, especially during midterms.  If Trump wins, im betting the house flips pretty quickly.  I doubt we see all three controlled by any party at any given time in the forseeable future.

Its a nice dream but i highly doubt republicans ever win both congressional sides.   I think this is still going to have to run through the courts (it'll get there... Eventually.  Very eventually...)

I havent seen a single credible source put this out.  This is twitter gossip until a source that actually shows up as a news source and not just someones clickbait blog posts it.

The coverage wouldn't stop anyways, the case against his dad is unprecedented and going to be subject to a lot of media scrutiny.

The cops doing the paperwork are under staffed. So it's not really their fault. It comes from the brass and budget and lawmakers and anti 2a org's like Everytown and Moms Demand Action. They want all these laws and hoops, which takes more time to process apps.  Keep in mind that we're all already gun owners. If we were so dangerous to no be able to CCW, then the guns should be consfiscated too right?

THe prior extra delay was cause of the lawsuit. There were those waiting 8 months and the settlement also agreed that their apps would be processed in like 60 days or something of the settlement agreement. So those guys will take priortiy and divert resource's.  We got our CCW's just a little after 90 days and the lawsuit was already filed like 10 days prior.

To be fair, NV has a 120 day law, but they have no permit to acquire or registration. So like I stated, the PTA shows that stuff can be done in 2 weeks if they wanted to.
I mean, keeping the division understaffed is part of policy is all im saying.

Even before ccw, under kealoha, they used to understaff the reg counter and the people working the desk were always complaiming about that.

Its indirect, but its still a policy choice.  There was never a reason the counter only could spare one officer like they had at times.

Definitely not blaming the counter guys, just more that they seem to deliberately divert resources, and design needlessly bloated procedures to make it arduous.

I know a bunch of guys with zero things that would cause a delay waiting 100 days now.  If HPD can run a permit to acquire in 2 weeks, they can do a CCW in the same or less.  It's just that they aren't allocating enough resouces to the CCW section.

The lawsuit settlement gives them 120 days. Try applying in some CA cities, 8 months and nothing. IIRC, there's a lawsuit in CA for that too. I wanna say San DIego, but I'm not sure.
Yeah honestly as soon as that 120 ruling came i just assumed theyd run it out to the end because they can now. Im willing to bet this is intentional now that they have a strict deadline forced on them.  Malicious compliance.

(not saying the cops at the desk are doing it thst way, just that i wouldn't be surprised if they made it internal policy from up top)

I think multiple counties/cities in CA have lawsuits. I know the bay area counties were fighting the extreme fees too

Looks like they are trying to streamline the process, possibly as a result of the HIFICO settlement posted today.

asking when you apply for anything you might possible be asked for when they do their review later gives you a chance to provide it sooner rather than waiting to be asked later.

maybe.
Given my experience and reports from others it honestly just sounds like they dont have many people actually filling that section out and the guy on duty assumed id have a letter like the Kaiser people have had to do.

Didnt streamline much given that they admitted they hadnt even touched my application until it had been over 80 days.   Oh well.

Did the cop ask you as you turned it in?  Or call you after, which means they looked into your background?

Unless the cop reviewed your app and it noted some mental health question that was not marked in your favor.
Update to this.

They asked as i was doing the application because i had answered the mental health portion (as i had before when purchssing the pistol) as it pertains to a condition.

They they said it shoukdnt be a problem, just that "well you know our standards are higher for carry" as if to prime me for a possible rejection.

They called me im late July about 80 days after i applied because they misunderstood the "alias" section i filled out (as directed to by the officer on duty when i applied) and just corrected the i fo on my app over the phone. That seems to be when they started the background check becsuse they told me they jad just stsrted the review.

I got my approval letter yesterday, 110 days from application.    Mental health never got brought up i suppose, just my name discrepency. Still miffed that they took over 80 days to even open up my application though.

I am wondering if my mental health history held up the process however as most people seem to be getting their approvals in 80-90 days.   Im guessing they called my psych and therapist and dragged the whole thing out.   Thank God i don't habe Kaiser red flagging me.

He asked as i was filling out the forms and checking i had everything. They hadnt started reveiwing anything. It could be nothing but they didnt require it when i bought my last gun a few months ago so it caught my attention.

He knew someone.

This is what's frustrating with the process, there's no FIFO.  Granted the exception that some do take longer for "missing" documents or errors, but I know a good amount of people with zero and totally clean records and some get theirs before others.
I just applied for my ccw today and i can already see that im likely to get jerked around.   Ive had no issues with permits to acquire, and i got my permit early for my last purchase in december.   But the officer today asked me if i ever needed a physicians letter for my permits to acquire in the past so im already expecting a hold up.

They quoted me the same 2-3 months as per usual but we'll see.   Ill start watching the mail in July.

i had to travel for work in march so i did not keep up with this development at all, as the range was still close when i moved.

I just moved back home, and thought i was going to have a nice range day.  What a pleasant surprise to find out that half of the range is still closed, and i need to remake or repurchase all new target stands because this stupid county can't be honest about anything.

Probably wont be able to shoot at all this year.  great.

General Discussion / Re: HPD issuing any CCW permits?
« on: September 17, 2023, 07:17:06 PM »
I couldn’t find the exact article/thread but I recall the police chief telling the public to call 911 if they suspect or someone carrying a firearm. I wonder if it’s actually happened yet because there’s no shortage of Karen’s.

There’s also no shortage of criminals who carry illegally as it is so I don’t see how his stance would make any difference other than legal gun owners being harassed and potentially shot during an encounter.

A guy I went to high school with who is now in HPD said that he’d gladly light up a ccw holder if they gave him the opportunity (not knowing that I am a holder myself) I hope that’s not the general sentiment towards permit holders but I wouldn’t doubt if it was.
Love when cops openly admit to their desire to kill someone over personal biases.

The social media ask has to be a 4th amendment violation too.   Excercising your constitutional right isnt probable cause.

CCW bill about giving social media info, 4 character witnesses, interview with the police, list of all household members, etc...

Bill about when transporting a gun, it cannot be in reach. And if no trunk available, then in a locked container.

Many many many more .

More updates to come
Its like they read Bruen and thought "let's violate every part of this ruling".

Off Topic / Re: Anyone who can repair and refinish old knives?
« on: December 05, 2016, 09:14:11 PM »
i dont know about the historical value.  i'd have to check.  the one on the left with the longer blade is custom work, i think.  the other, i'd have to search for the model, if i can find it.

first and foremost is to restore the edges.  from there, if i can clean up the surfaces, that would be nice, but if there's any historical, value, i guess i wouldnt.  the kabar is pretty much fullt blunted.  the other knife is sharper towards theend, but there's small dents in teh edge.

the kabar also has some rus on teh other side on teh surface you cant see in the photo.

how would i find the model?  I only knowe the kabar was made in japan.

As you can see, the finish is pretty bad on both and the blades are pretty messed up.  Can anyone work on this?
