General Discussion / Re: First handgun purchases
« on: March 18, 2015, 04:52:43 PM »
Shoot if the vp9 is only 650 and the glocks I've seen around 649 there's no way I'm buying a glock. Plus I have average sized hands so I don't like the ergonomics of glocks much. The sights of the hk along with the feature where the slide locks forward as soon as you insert a new mag is pretty Bitchin.

OP, I bought my VP9 last July from Cross Creek Guns, a supporting vendor of the HKPro forum. According to his website, he currently has a 10rd VP9 for $599.50 shipped (and yes, his shipping costs even to Hawaii are $5.50). Once you factor in the FFL fee, you'll get close to OGC's price so it doesn't hurt to check with them first since they're a great LGS. But if the local stores are out of stock, I'd recommend contacting Mike at Cross Creek.

Deals and Sales / Re: Peltor Tac 100 Electronic Earmuffs

Mahalos for the heads up.  I ended up getting it.  At $54 I thought it was a good deal.  Kind of bummed, I wanted to get a few more.  I could not figure out how to change the qty.  Oh well, I will pay attention for deals like this one.

Glad you were able to use it. I think for Lightning Deals Amazon limits the quantity to just one. I actually got a pair about two weeks ago (was $59 at that time) and thought about getting another for just in case. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, it's still in the package. Just means I need to get to the range soon!

Deals and Sales / Peltor Tac 100 Electronic Earmuffs
« on: February 17, 2015, 08:03:34 PM »
For anyone looking for earpro, tomorrow (2/18) at 12:30pm (12:00 if you have Amazon Prime) Amazon has the Peltor Tac 100 earmuffs as a lightning deal. Extra 20% off, so price should be around the mid-$50 range. They got a good review on the Mrgunsngear YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago.

Ban on NFA items repealed. And then a can. I have no idea what brand, because I don't torture myself by watching YouTube reviews when I can't own one. But I'd like something for a .45.

General Discussion / Re: Future "Classics"?
« on: November 12, 2014, 06:28:40 PM »
All great suggestion... thanks!

In response to mauidog: Admittedly kind of cheesy, but I'd love to be able to keep and hold onto a nice firearm for each kid, to present it to them on a very special occasion.

I had thought about saving up for a Ned Christensen 1911 to give to each child on their Wedding Day, to emphasize the importance of the day, to commemorate their transformation into the role of protectors of their families, and to solidify their respect and understanding of the importance of our Second Amendment rights, and to help them develop an appreciation of a finely engineered firearm.

... then I saw the price tag, and I was all, "Yeah, fuck that idea! Those 20-piece flatware sets from Macy's are looking real good, right about now."

Why not get less expensive 1911s, like a Springfield or Dan Wesson, and have the slides personally engraved for each child? It wouldn't really appreciate in value, so not really good for investment, but it would be much more meaningful for them.

« on: October 07, 2014, 08:00:05 PM »
well I agree with mauidog you can buy all the bullets because you have the right but then hey leave some for the next guy because I was thinking about the .22 shortage and sports authority was selling .22 guns but no bullets and the sales man said they were out for months

What .22 shortage? SEC had a good deal on .22 at the gun show and I'm sure they still have at their store, OGC just got a couple of bricks of Rem Viper in today, and I wouldn't be surprised if both X-Ring & Young Guns also has .22.

Off Topic / Re: any sprint cell phone users here?
« on: September 13, 2014, 08:58:16 AM »
Three of us at work all have iPhone 5S's. One on Verizon, one on Sprint, and I'm on AT&T. Our office is in Kakaako. The Sprint guy rarely gets more than two bars, and usually does not get any coverage at our office. Verizon & AT&T iPhones have full bars in the same spot. For the Sprint guy, text messages usually go through, but he is unable to use data consistently. He'll be switching to T-Mo next month when his contract is up because he has coverage problems elsewhere (not just at work). Verizon guy is on Verizon because he's originally from Hilo where Verizon has good coverage. He has no problems here on Oahu too. I have no major coverage problems with AT&T, except at Aloha Stadium. I stick with AT&T because I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan for the iPhone. I would leave for a different carrier if AT&T ever eliminates my plan out of principle, but don't have any major issues with them.

I have a Ruger American Rimfire too. Fun gun to shoot and if I remember correctly it was about $275 from SEC back in December.

General Discussion / Re: HK VP9 sale falls through…sucks!!
« on: August 15, 2014, 05:52:31 PM »
I'm currently in Ohio and checked several local gun shops for a VP9 and other firearms. From what I can found the average price is $630 not including 7% tax, shipping, and FFL transfer only for handguns. Prices for most handguns and rifles are almost the same as OGC. Common sense is to buy local. So far I only see one used wasr ak47 with eotech for $1250. No Saiga 12. That's crazy. They said Russian ak and saiga are high in demand. Most other misc parts prices are cheaper or the same as online. I decided to order some parts and saved a lot on shipping cost.

Did you check out Cross Creek? Not sure if he has an actual store; I know he operates out of his house so might not do retail sales from his home.

Kekoa, really sucks to hear about your bad experience. I got mine from Mike at Cross Creek Guns in Ohio, $594 shipped to Oahu. Add the transfer fee, and it was pretty much the same price as Carter has at OGC. I wish I bought local, but at the time I didn't know when OGC would get theirs (and how much it would cost). I'd certainly try dealing with Carter, but if it's just too unworkable I'd shoot Mike an email. He works out of his house, which means no overhead and very, very reasonable prices. He's got a huge wait list, and he's one of the few dealers that will ship to California, so you will have to wait a long while for the 10rd version. Believe me, it's a great gun and well worth the wait!

Ah well, that's how it goes. That is a good sale at KGS.

What's DCT?

Danger Close Tactical, he has a vendor page on this forum for more info.

Congrats. :worship:  So jealous.  Hope more VP9 come in to our LGS.  No news on my order and have to wait when I come back in September.

I would think that Carter would be willing to put you down on a list for his next shipment. I also saw that Kaneohe Gun Shop has one in stock (at least according to his website inventory). Not sure how much KGS is charging though. Mike at Cross Creek is really cool, I'm sure that if you sent him an email explaining that you'll be out of town for a couple of weeks, he'll try to make arrangements for you.

thanks musu
if you ever go to the silhouette side on sunday afternoon, send me a pm
i will bring my P30 and P30L that have lightened hammer springs and firing pin block springs
and speedtek is a walther fan, so he usually has a ppq, 2 weeks ago he also had a ppx
or come to an HDF range day

are you HKinHI on hkpro?
my screenname is, well, macsak on hkpro

Yeah, on HKPro I'm HKinHI. When I registered I figured that not many people on that forum would know what a musubi is (i.e., round and white, just like me). I usually hit KHSC on weekdays, but if I go on a weekend I'll send you a PM. When I was first shopping for my P30 I went to X-Ring and remember Dexter talking up Walther. Fortunately (or unfortunately, according to my wallet) Brian had a USP and made sure that I went with the HK instead. I'd love to get more opinions on how the VP9 stacks up with the PPQ. And Sig P320, too.

BTW, after shooting the VP9 I was able to touch the front of the slide without gloves. Granted, I was shooting at KHSC pace, but I don't think that the gun got any more hot than any other gun I've ever shot before.

thanks for that, musu
how did it shoot?

I really like it. I'm still learning how to shoot, so it's not like I'm an expert, but I felt that I shot it better than my P30LS (I have the DA/SA variant, with a stock trigger). I suspect that it's because the trigger breaks sooner (or travels less? not sure about the nomenclature) than the P30, so I don't have to hold the gun on target as long while pressing the trigger. And there's less of a chance for me to yank the gun while working the trigger. Ergos are good, but I prefer the grippier skateboard-tape feel of the P30. However, when we get carry I think the VP9 grip will be more comfortable than the P30's when concealed. I've never shot a PPQ, so don't have a point of reference with that gun, but I think the VP9 is better than my friend's stock Glock 19 in both grip and how the trigger feels. Of course, that's just one n00b's opinion, and I'm not a Tier-One Operator.

You should get one - OGC had a very good price on their first batch. I got mine from Cross Creek Guns (HKPro vendor), so it was just under $600 shipped. With the FFL fee it was the same cost as Carter's, and I regret not buying locally. No matter who you buy from, it's at a very reasonable price, particularly for an HK.

Great day for pistol shooting. Very empty. Hooked up with mr. MUSUBI !
Will probably go tomorrow too. Friday.
Anybody else?

Good seeing you again too, oldguy! Unfortunately I need to work in order to afford ammo so I won't be there tomorrow. But I'll keep an eye out for you the next time I go. Good luck on the Gold Dot testing.

No ETA for the HK VP9.  Gray Guns called and should be done within this week. I hope.  HK45 trigger job and shipping both way price are over $550.

Mike from Cross Creek Guns emailed me yesterday; he said he expects to ship my VP9 to my FFL tomorrow. I can't imagine that there's a long waitlist for the 10rd version, so yours should be available soon.

Can always just use LTE and not use Wi-Fi.

Cross Creek Guns have very good price and $5.50 shipping.  HK price is super cheap. Not sure they can send to hawaii at that shipping price.  I'm waiting response.

I bought a HK45 from Cross Creek last April. Shipping to Hawaii was $5.50.

Who is he up against?

This is Mark Takai's old seat (he's running for Congress this year). There is currently one other primary opponent per the Office of Elections: Arnold Wong (D). The only other candidate for the district is Robert Helsham (R), who would face the winner of the primary.
