Small arms are typically not considered UXO. The OP suggested if the clip was present, a grenade may also be present. It is a possibility, but it is also equally possible the Ark of the Covenant may be found near by said clip. The rounds as discovered, are not something to be concerned about.
Bottom line is where ever troops were present and trained, UXO or discarded munitions may be present. The baseline risk increases as evidence supporting UXO is discovered. In this case that is not the case.
UXO is fairly common in HI. Most are discarded training items but there are live items. Not much can be done but address them as they are discovered since what was done in the past cannot be undone. A grenade (live or practice) looks roughly the same as a 2" pipe nipple, and are almost impossible to identify with out inspection by a qualified tech. If you think it is bad, think about how things are in Guam or any other Acts of War sites.
If you find a questionable item, mark the location and call the police. It is important to report the item since it will put it on someone's radar/to do list. The Police will secure the area and contact the appropriate EOD personnel. Best not to pick things up.
Why all the hate going on here? I, like most everyone else, prefer not to post personal info on the forum.
PERSEC and OPSEC.
I agree. Even if just poking fun. PI is not something to take lightly. It is a reason I no longer participate in "Forum Polls" that look friendly but could be data mining schemes. There is enough of that going on already that most are not aware of. I too choose not to volenteer more info than needed.
What type of powder you use helps too. If you choose a powder that fills over 1/2 the case volume it will be easy to spot a double charge since the powder will overflow the case. I worry more about a partial charge leading to a squib or ignition issues that accompany a partial charge. Removing the problem case or cases as was stated above is the best practice when using a progressive. You'll make up the problem case, don't interupt the loading cycle.
You can do it, but you need to work backwards, clearing it and getting a shipping quote for a freight fowarder like Hawaii Freight. You then order your ammo and have it delivered to the freight fowarder. Too make it worth while you need to order in bulk and spread the shipping costs, then pick up the shipment at the fowarder. You'll probably save a few bucks but you really need to put a lot of work into it. At this point, unless you bring in a pallet sized order, it is worth paying OGCs price. If you want a specific load, DIY or special order through one of the local shops.
Friends and I did a bulk shipment for powder a few months ago. It was worth the savings. If OGC goes bulk on powder and primers their cost will likely be good as well.
Don't know any on island source, but they do sell kydex kits online. I'd like to try and make one as well, but have not had the time or commitment to sit down and try. Maybe in 2012.
9mm using SD rounds. Modern SD pistol ammo has essentially the same performance stats from 9mm-45ACP. Assuming the 9mm platform is easier to shoot, and hits count more than misses...9mm.
