Legal and Activism / Re: Letter sent to Neil Abercrombie
« on: October 11, 2010, 10:01:49 PM »
I had an interesting series of emails exchanged with Neil's office... I think they're archived on my work computer.  I'll post them this week if I can find them.

Interested in the responses as well but I'm wary/skeptical, and not in a paranoid way. It is election season and the campaign knows that they have to be appealing to all groups to garner as much votes as possible.

Abercrombie is a career politician, and a very anti-gun one. I would personally love to see a positive change in Hawaii's gun laws but this is an ugly election year outcome.

I heard paypal is also gun nazi's. Any one have a compiled list of other companies that have a very anti gun sentiment?

PayPal is 99.9% anti-gun since it is owned by eBay. I wasn't using eBay back in it's early years but I heard it used to have guns available on it's auctions before they banned them after high profile incidents.

When I say 99.9% it's that the 1% is from parts/accessories etc. eBay doesn't mind if you're buying Russian Dragunov furniture or M4 rails etc.

LEOs have what is called SOVEREIGN IMMUNITY. Research that. This is the reason why LEOs don't worry about JACKSHIT when the bust your ass, anyone elses ass, or anything else they do.

LEOs CCW because they work for the State. Because the State wants to maintain the ability to KILL anyone at any given time.

For these reasons they appear to be magical.

I have family who are police officers and I plan on joining the force as well and never did I get the sense of being "magical". Yes some local cops have an attitude but so do cops elsewhere. Let's face it, no one is going respect the officer who speaks soft and nice to the guy beating on his wife or meth-heads.

Cliche as it sounds I still believe most officers never want to draw their weapon on anyone, much less take a life. They are trained to do so but as a last resort to protect the community as well as themselves. No disrespect but your reply is just the kind of thing that makes gun owners look bad.

I'm pretty sure, in Hawaii, it only includes your life or your families' lives. We don't have defense of property like they do in Texas.

Dang, so that means if I see someone breaking into my car I can't stop them? Almost always are the stolen cars here taken somewhere to be chopped and sold or abandoned and set fire in a cane field or something.

Hawaii is too liberal and left a state to accept the idea that it's citizens are trustworthy. Even if by a miracle we pass a more reasonable CCW law here, all it would take is one mishap by a citizen and you'd politicians and people demanding a complete ban on CCW.

Yes, police officers are people just like the rest of us. We all make mistakes but when a police officer is involved in a shooting there is less of an impact than if a citizen were to do so. An entire police force can't have their weapons confiscated because of a accidental shooting.

I'm not saying us as citizens shouldn't be allowed to have weapons at the ready, I've been looking at my own attempt to get a CCW but I know my chances are nil.

Does use of force apply to your home only or does it include "other" property? By that I mean vehicles. One of the most common crimes here on Maui anyway is auto-theft. I'm pretty sure it happens a lot on the other islands because I'd browse the Hawaii forums and there were tons of stolen car posts. In fact there have been cars stolen here on Church property during Sunday mass.

Hoping Abercrombie doesn't win but all the polls puts him in the lead.

I'm late to reply but I think the best AK's aren't really pure AK's to begin with. The VEPR uses a 1.5mm thick RPK receiver compared to the 1mm receiver of normal stamped AK's. The difference might not seem huge but the thicker the receiver the less flex and the better the accuracy.

The only downside to the VEPR family is the fact they're heavy compared to other AK's and they lack compatibility with other AK furniture.

Although it looks like an AK; the VZ-58 is another option. It's been tested against several AK's and it seems to come out on top all the time. Interesting weapon indeed.

I'm very curious as to how this will affect Hawaii since we're seen as one of the strictest/most anti-gun states.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but maybe it would lift the "assault pistol" ban or make concealed carry much easier to obtain? One can dream.
