Off Topic / Airsoft on the BI?
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:22:04 AM »
Hey, does anyone here play airsoft on the big island? I've been looking around the web for airsoft Hawaii sites but so far they all seem kinda dead, I was wondering if anyone can clue me in to how active the sport is here.

So looking over the responses from the chief all I saw was "We know we have corrupt cops and we ignore the laws you had better follow, but just let us know when we do it and we will get right on it, promise"

Why is it the only people you can call on the cops is the cops? "Who watches the watchmen?" As it were.

(Not that I do not have the utmost respect for the LEO's of our country that hold true to their duties.)

I have seen that (On the BI myself), isn't there a federal law that says it is illegal to make traffic stops in unmarked cars? Also, they don't even have Gov. plates, in some states that is a huge No-No.

I also keep hearing about some survey that came back with something like 82% of people do not feel safe calling the police to handle a problem, any truth to that?

Okay, thanks for the info gmac. Like I said, it sounded a bit far out, but I just thought I'd see what the attitude is towards the police from other gun owners here.

It is kinda messed up that they deny the people they are responsible for the ability to defend themselves though. Seems a little bass akwards.

So I just arrived on the big island and was having a chat with my new neighbor. The topic moved in a 2a direction and I heard some horror stories about police corruption and anti gun agendas. He even claimed that the police sell gun registration lists to criminals so they know where to steal guns.

Is it really that bad here? I doubt it is but thought I should ask.

Thanks man, I appreciate the warm welcome. This seems like a really laid back community you got here and that can be rare these days.

I definitely want to do what I can to help, it really sucks that politicians take action and vote based on hysteria and ignorance of subjects. Hopefully we can set a positive example for states like CA and NY to follow, then law abiding residents of those states can be a little safer and less restricted.

(Not that it happens in a day. Although that would be cool)

Oh, one more question, I have an Uberti Remington cap and ball .44, is that cool to have and shoot at a range with no paperwork? And can you order black powder arms online in Hawaii?

You don't need a permit to acquire for a firearm you already own.

So I can manufacture a closet full of guns and as long as I permanently put a serial number on them and bring them down to the cop shop I'm good? Words cannot express how happy you just made me, thank you again for the information.

Check with speedtek or ogc for a definitive answer on the AK.

I know you'd need to put a serial number on your AK before they'll let you register it though.

The laws in Hawaii aren't so bad.

Nothing class 3, no "assault pistols", no pistol magazines over 10 rounds and no CCW. But other than that you're good.

Okay, I can stamp a SN on it after I'm done no problem there.

And I really don't mean this to be a personal offense to anyone, just an observation, but where I come from your laws are considered very oppressive. Obviously not so bad I won't move there, but still very saddening knowing I need someones permission to give a gun to a friend, that's just wrong.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Do I still need a permit to acquire to register it if I built it myself?

Hello everyone, my name is Andrew and I am both new to this forum and soon to be new to Hawaii.

I just had a couple questions before I move and I was hoping someone here could answer them, since the official legal websites don't have the info I need.

My primary question is, what are the registration requirements and steps for a home made firearm conforming to all state and federal law for legal possession? In this case, an AKM made from a parts kit, with fixed wood stock and full length rifle barrel. The rifle would be built in the state of Hawaii. (It is currently an AKMS under folder but I need to change out the receiver with a new one for the fixed stock, so I'd technically be making a new rifle, it would not be transported to the state with a receiver)

As a secondary question, I just want to know the general attitude towards firearms there, is it like Cali? I come from Alaska initially, and I'm living in Oregon now, so all these special laws and permits and restrictive Jim crow laws are making my head spin.
