General Discussion / Re: Midway USA ammo
« on: June 11, 2026, 03:59:49 PM »
Was hoping this would apply to primers. However, I added some to my cart and tried to checkout but was told they do not ship these items to Hawaii. Oh well.

Primer's will never be allowed onto planes.  Ammo is relatively stable.  Primers go boom.

Authorities say that Oscar “Zeke” Bettorf, 60, was driving a semi truck loaded with shotgun shell primers when the primers exploded.

Perhaps one day our savior will arrive in Hawaii.  Instead of banning guns they protect our gun rights.

There's several videos on HHHNewz on FB/Instagram of the incident.  It was a teenage girls party with alcohol.  Couldn't tell what was being said, but it appeared the 2 victims were taunting the others and the lifeguard may have thrown the first punch.  I didn't get the impression that the mobbing would've happened if not for the taunting, nor that it was a planned or coordinated fight. Also, it appeared like the 2 victims could have escaped or left the party before the mobbing occurred.

What if instead of a blood quantum requirement, they changed it to a skill and culture based requirement and applicants have to compete for it.  Speak Hawaiian, dance the hula, farm taro fields and fish ponds, make tapa clothing, etc.  That would perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and traditions far more than anything else would while being constitutional.  I don't see a flood of people wanting to do that for a leased property they still have to build a home on.

I've always wondered why no one sued Kamehameha for their Hawaiians only like policy.  The kool aid is strong in Hawaii.

Kamehameha schools is a private school that doesn't use government funds.  They should be able to dictate which students they take.  It is different from Harvard where they receive federal funds and grants and the Hawaiian Homelands which is a government entity.

Forgot to mention Kamehameha school got sued a couple of times in the past ending with large settlements.  They knew they would lose.  Not sure how it'll turn out this time as on one hand it's an anti-DEI environment, but on the other the crackdown is focused on Government related programs and NGOs and while allowing private organizations to do their own thing.

I wonder what the motive for the fight was.  If it was a disagreement then normally past practice was two people fight it out one on one and they'd stop fighting when someone gave up.  There would be respect on both sides.  If it was a robbery they'd beat someone up, steal stuff, then take off.   I guess this was a gang related fight as they posted it online to use it as an example for their competition.

For the other stories, I don't like the term road rage as it makes an excuse for their behavior.  Same is true for hate crimes, crimes against police and old people, etc.  It should be treated equally and just called violence or assault.

The continued kicks to the head by the mob was a clear sign that deadly force could be used to save the person.  But you may not know who started the fight, possibly hit the victim, and you could be subject to lawsuits even if you're right.

A better option would be to use the large can of pepper spray to hose down the area when the fight started and have a gun incase they draw a gun or knife on you.

Lawsuit saying the Hawaiian home lands 50% hawaiian blood requirement is unconstitutional as it's based on race.  This is different from the indian tribes as Hawaiian's were never federally recognized as a tribe.  Do you think it's unconstitutional or should be allowed somehow?

Ima check chinamans hat thanks

Kualoa permit window opens 2 weeks prior.  For summertime, you have to apply the minute it opens or else it'll get sold out fast.

Not sure why some positions, like the mayor and county councils, are considered non-partisan.  Doesn't seem to be a difference.  Do they have to give up their membership as a registered Democrat/Republican?  I understand there's no primaries and theres no D or R next to their name, but is that the only difference?

Political Discussion / Re: tulsi 2028

vance and tulsi were already on the outs because they are against the war in iran
that's not to say that it's impossible to for vance to be the candidate, but he's definitely in the minority right now...

They both got a good chance in 2028.  The war with Iran is somewhat unpopular on the Republican side.  Most support Trump but shrugingly accept the war.  Some strong conservatives are against the war as it essentially uses taxpayer money to aid other countries.  But more importantly the war is having a negative effect on the economy which is the #1 voter issue in elections by far.  So this issue would help Vance.  If Iran concedes, stops terrorism, gives their nuclear materials up, and sells their oil to the world then Vance will claim he supported Trump for the win.  If it's a stalemate, Vance will say he didn't support the war but supported Trump.

Vance is also getting a lot of attention and getting things done as the VP.  Usually VP's don't do much.  That's a credit to Trump, ensuring he has a successor.

She was in the officer class after mine a ways back and we had to write what our future goals are.  I never asked her about it, but I assumed she wrote President.

She didn't get enough exposure to run for President in 2028, people still don't know who she is.  She'd make a good VP for Vance.  Represent the more moderate and humble side while offering some different opinions that doesn't class too hard with Vance.  It'd bring in the moderates and independents.   She can do that, gain exposure and experience, then run for President later as she's still young.

General Discussion / Re: PSA no longer shipping to Hawaii

Things are worse than you think.  PSA will deny you buying magazines in-person at their retail stores in a different state by checking your ID and checking their online compliance page for your home state.  Vote with your wallet, don't shop there until they change their policies.  This reddit thread was about a Maryland resident trying to buy magazines at a PSA store in South Carolina.  Maryland's law is you can possess, but cannot buy hi-cap mags in Maryland.

PSA now denying IN-STORE buying of magazines for people from ban states?
https://www.reddit.com/r/MDGuns/comments/1tgog8h/a_psa_about_psa_magazine_sales_to_md_residents/
I was traveling south on i95 and stopped at the PSA store in Florence SC. Picked up two 15rd magazines and a 10rd - Proceeded to the cashier.

Cashier asked me for my ID, to which I presented it. She then said "Maryland, oh boy" - Looked at a sheet and said, "I can only sell you 10 round capacity magazines because you have a magazine restriction". To which I laughed, and asked if she was serious, unfortunately she was. I didn't argue or debate it, I just wrote them off immediately as Anti-2A.

PSA will never see me as a customer again, just a heads up for MD residence hoping to get magazines.

*Edit* - Take note of the multiple replies in this thread of those who have been denied a magazine sale in person at a PSA retail store. Do with that as you wish, I hope you spend your money elsewhere.
