General Discussion / Re: Deedy retrial
« on: August 04, 2014, 10:48:34 PM »
Yeah, I agree. It's either Deedy is guilty for 2nd degree murder (the charge the prosecution is going after him with) or not. Throwing everything you can at him just get "something" to stick is not what we should expect from our judicial system.

General Discussion / Deedy retrial
« on: August 02, 2014, 08:44:37 PM »
So any thoughts on the fact that Judge Ahn is throwing in manslaughter now?

Not sure how this is applicable when Deedy knew he was likely to cause death by pulling his pistol. To me those actions fall under murder in the 2nd territory.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't Ruger Chargers determined to be "assault pistols" under HRS rules? If I recall there was a bunch of headache when people bought them and tried to register them at HPD.

Off Topic / Re: actual experience with obamacare- not a joke thread
« on: February 05, 2014, 02:44:27 PM »
Be aware that many companies renewed their 2014 rates early in 2013 (before Obamacare made major impacts on healthcare premiums). Majority of the market that is seeing major rate/deductible hikes is mainly the individual market.

Companies will be negotiating with their respective insurance companies for their 2015 rates this upcoming October (before they begin their respective "open enrollment" periods at the end of the year). Many people are going to see the "real" impact of this law late this year. When the "new" rates come out, expect to see many companies drop healthcare coverage all together, dumping their employees into the public market, and/or huge increases in deductibles and rates for those that keep insurance for their employees.

This is why the White House is trying to push the enrollment period (2015) for companies after the Nov election, political fallout (if majority of the country sees huge rate hikes) would be disastrous for the Dems.

It's a 50/50 on how this will play out, because companies need to have their rates locked in before they can offer their new health care plans to their employees. The White House "telling" companies they don't "have" to have their rates done till after the Nov election is not legally binding. Companies can (and probably will) get their rates locked in on time to ensure their employees have time to select their benefit plans before the end of the year. If the rates/deductibles are made public before the election, expect some political fall out.

Just one quick Google source, many others out there about the enrollment push back and political ramifications for this year...

General Discussion / Re: How long does it take an ar15 to rust?
« on: April 14, 2013, 04:42:12 PM »
Have your family member strip the rifle down and clean and lube it. If they don't know how, just tell them to watch a YouTube video. Better to have them take care of it now rather than come home and the rifle is f-d.

I'm personally liking the idea of the BAD ASS safety for shooting weak side.  You should get it so I can sample   :worship:   jkin.  As far as the side folding adapter, how long has that been in production?  I've always been skeptical to try new things that do not have a proven track record, but like the idea for storage purposes.

Only item on my "wish list" right now

1.  mounted weapon light - kinda looking into this

ImKu, I've also been interested in the HSP WML, you should check out.

http://haleystrategic.com/store/inforce_wml_hsp.php

Light (momentary activation only) with offset mount only $149.00 (not including shipping), which is actually dirt cheap when you compare it to the price of Surefire scout w/ mount. Just a heads up if you haven't seen it yet.

Screw that, someone should put a Fort Hood victim in their damn face and tell them "Yeah all the firearms were at the armory, that sure as hell didn't stop someone from walking up and shooting people on base..."

T1, superb battery life, and super light weight. Try checking out the Daniel Defense M4 abuse video, the Aimpoint on the rifle takes a damn beating and keeps on ticking. Made me decide on a T1 for my AR.

F that. Funny how Reid is so quick to forget that the Democrats can become the next minority in the Senate at every election.

General Discussion / Craziest Price Gouge You've Seen...
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:50:00 PM »
Ok, lets hear em. With so many people losing their minds, list the most insane price you've seen on something (if can, list what the standard price should be). I'll start...

Gunbroker
-5 Gen2 Non Window PMags, auction closed at just over $455.00... 5 Gen2 PMags should be between $10-$14 (Total should have been around $70.00).

-100 pack Gen2 Non Window PMags, auction was still going at over $7,500.00.... 100 Gen2 PMags should have been around $1,400.

-AR15.com member had a coworker offer him $3k for a $800 franken AR. Coworker knew what the actual cost of the rifle was, but had checked local stores, and panic buying had wiped out all local inventories.

I'm not against supply and demand logic behind these guys making a profit (though I personally would never pay this kind of mark up).  :-\

General Discussion / Re: Piers vs Larry Pratt (Guess who wins...)
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:23:21 AM »
Totally agree Xer. Piers always attacks the pro gun guys he has on the show by attempting to argue with emotion rather than fact. If he starts to fail at that, he goes for simply drowning out the other guy by talking over them. I'm glad that Larry simply did the same thing to him to get him to shut up. It's Morgan's MO, he's run that script against John Lott and Alan Gottlieb, and up till now he's been marginally effective at just shouting louder than the guest.

By the way, I LOVE the fact that Larry brought up England's violent crime rate instead of the misleading "gun deaths" arguement that Piers loves. Piers immediately changed subject when the figures where articulated by Larry to disprove him.

Awsome job by Larry Pratt! You know you've won when Piers Morgan needs to revert to name calling because he has no legs to stand on in the arguement...

General Discussion / He doesn't want to debate anymore...
« on: December 14, 2012, 02:18:26 PM »
Thought I'd share an small portion of a converstation I had on Facebook with a liberal friend's buddy... A bunch of the old "the Founding Fathers never thought there would be firearms like there are today", and the old "We need more gun laws", etc etc prior to me making some comments. Only one pro-gun guy getting attacked before I got there. This is all in reference to today's school shooting tragedy.

(Conservative Guy) WOW!!!! so y'all saying that if I wasn't prior service that I cant defend my life or anyone elses or have the right to bare arms? Just very highly trained people? Lee Harvey Oswald ring a bell anyone? Mass murders will not stop cause of the fact the gun regulations. The NRA is present to keep the average American's right to keep and bare arms. I am sorry y'all are blaming the guns. The guns were just the means of the murders. Just like car is the means of a drunk driver killing people. no one is saying take cars away from everyone because of few drunk drivers on the road now are they. It was just the means. its like the spoon made Rosy O'donnell fat. Its the person not the means.

Anti-Gun Guy no one is saying regular people can't have a gun as long as you're a responsible adult who can control both emotions and is in compos mentis. Assault weapons should be banned for civilians. Period.

(Conservative Guy) no they shouldn't they already have regulations on that. In order to have a fully auto weapon you have to pay a fee and a background check. Everyone is calling for tighter regulation period. even frank said m,ilitary should only own guns.

Me To articulate "Conservative Guy's" point; average yearly deaths associated with vehicles 250,000. Average yearly deaths associated with firearms (to include suicides and law enforcement defensive use) 50,000. Average estimated times a firearm is used to defend/deter a violent act against your average citizen 800,000-2.5 million. Just saying...

Me Political views aside, this is a horrible tragedy, and my prayers are with each and every affected family. Words seem so insufficient in the face of their tragic loss...

Anti-Gun Guy @Me, tell that statistic to the victims' families. Assault weapons in the general public should be outlawed. These crazy people are able to get them because they are easy to get. We need to make them more difficult to acquire.

Me First, the flip side of the arguement is to tell the woman who is stalked, beaten and raped that "we" didn't trust her with a firearm to protect herself. I agree the statistics mean nothing to the families who were affected today, but there are people who have used firearms to protect themselves each day. Second, "assault rifles" are firearms with the ability to shoot in "burst" or fully automatic modes. Per the National Firarms Act of 1934, fully automatic firearms/short barreled rifles and shotguns/destructive devices were made illegal (and continue today, unless your state allows the ownership along with Federal background checks and approval). "Assault Style Rifles" as banned in 1994, are simply rifles that bear visual similarity to assault rifles. Meaning they "look bad" but share the same mechanical operations than other more commonly seen firearms (IE: ranch rifles).

Me   All firearm purchases require a NICS check. The NICS check is used to detect mental health as well as criminal background checks. Now heres the problem, if people with mental problems are not reported, they will never be flagged for removal. This may or may not be the case in today's shooting. There have yet to be any reports on how the firearms were acquired (stolen/owned).

Anti-Gun Guy So what is the solution to all of this gun violence? What rationale can we look to? Look at all the shootings just this year alone... Look at how easy these people can access these weapons. There have to be laws to keep them in the proper hands. Look at the movie theater killer. He bought much of his cache on the Internet!

Anti-Gun Guy You can't tell me people like that can buy that much ordinance and not be noticed by anyone...

Me   I don't know if I have the solution, but my opinion on how to reduce these instances would be to first improve the mental health reporting system. Ensure that if someone is showing aberant behavior, they are reported, and help is given to these individuals (each mass murder recently has shown some sort of sign that they were not mentally stable). Second, I would removed "gun free zones", these always fail to work, as the crazy guy who is intent on murdering people isn't going to stop because you put a sign up telling him not to bring a gun on the grounds. The only people who won't be armed is Jon Doe who actually followed the law.

Me   Oh and my personal fantasy land would be to issue each woman in the US a pistol and train her accordingly how to use it. Now she wouldn't be required to carry it if she didn't feel comfortable, but by arming 50% of the population, people intent on doing bad things would never know which woman would be armed and able to stop them. This is my way out there opinion, but I think it'd stop a whole bunch of rapes and murders...

Considering the anti-gun guy was posting every second after I posted, after my last comment he hasn't said a word since...
