General Discussion / Re: "I am going to the range today"

i would be surprised if it was crowded

Thanks.  I went today and there was about 4-5 open lanes the whole time I was there.

A few years ago, it was voted the best public range in the nation. After seeing how clean and smoothly it operates, I understand why.  Compare this to KHSC. You can't do this, you can't do that, etc...When I first called CC range and explained why I'm asking about holstering and mag limits, they asked if I was from Hawaii.

When I was there, I heard a guy shooting at a quick pace and instinctually I was thinking this guy is going to get in trouble, but nope, nothing happened.

On a sidenote I gotta try the sporting clays course next time since I was able to get a case of birdshot and leave it at my friend's house in Vegas.

Haven't been to the range since before covid, how crowded is it on the rifle side on weekdays?  I plan to go this Friday since I have a rare weekday off.  Thanks.

I have a general question about the Clark County gun range.  On the pistol side do we need to bring target and target stand or does the county provide the stand?  I’m scheduled to be there the first week of march and figured I will go check the place out. I do see there’s a fee to shoot. Beautiful looking public facility.

I was there 6 months ago and just to add to what changemyoil said, you can also buy various targets in their store as well as rent guns.  Awesome range with top notch staff and plenty of holes in the ground for various target distances.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll just pickup ammo before I go there.  I won't be shooting in any matches, I'm a noob.

I think you'll have to check in ur 2 pistols as well?  Anyone know fer sure?

Yes, you're correct, I worded it a bit wrong.  My G17 and Springfield XD-S will both fit in the Springfield case which has 2 lock holes, and that case can fit in my suitcase so I won't have to pay for another checked bag.  I just gotta pack a little lighter so I don't go over 50lbs.

Did you buy ammo at CCSP or somewhere else?

Thank you 841gun, perfect timing since I just booked a last-minute flight from VH and will be going next week.  I was just gonna ask about the ammo they sell there, do you know what brand it is?  Debating on whether to order ammo online and ship to my friend's house or go to an LGS.  I will bring my 2 9mm pistols and probably won't bring my Mossy TR500 since I don't have a Pelican case and I'll have to pay baggage fees, so I may just rent a shotgun or just stay on the pistol side.

Well I don't have a rifle yet, but I would take my Glock 17 and my Mossberg TR500.

The Spurs define what teamwork means.

The heat on the other hand are a bunch of egomaniacs that have no idea what it means to truly be a team.

When the Spurs win this championship series, the heat will fall apart and blame the refs, the weather, the crowd, the stars, the alignment of the planets and everything else.

Even in the post championship interviews, the Heat still keep talking about their "big 3".  What about everyone else on your team, do they mean nothing?  ::)

The Spurs have proved that their "whole" is greater than the sum of their parts and through longevity with your coaches and fellow players you can beat anyone.

If I lived in Vegas I wouldn't even bother with the range. Just drive out to the desert.

True, that's what my friend that moved there a few months ago, does.  But after he saw the pics of CCSP he's gonna check it out.  For rifle and pistol, shooting in the desert is fine, but for trap and skeet I'd go to CCSP.

Just watched this video of a tour of CCSP.  Been weighing the pros and cons of moving to Las Vegas and this is definitely a pro.

Love the spurs but I smell a 3 peat. James is to good. He looked bad  in game one but took over in game 2. Best player in the league today hands down.

The Spurs are my team but facts are facts.  Spurs can win if they play as a cohesive unit and move the ball around and find the open man, AND they have to make the shots though.  LeBron is a freak of nature and can be a one man team, playing pretty much any position from point to center, so even if the rest of the Heat are playing like crap they still have a chance, whereas if the Spurs aren't playing well, they don't have anyone that can just take over a game like LeBron can.

That being said, Go Spurs Go!   O0

I have Kaiser medical and applied for two handgun and one long gun permits this past May 16th and picked up my permits on the 30th with no problems at all.  When did you apply?

Hunter Safety course is fine for those with experience, but I highly recommend the Lessons In Firearm Education ( L.I.F.E.) especially if you're a transplant because they really go throught the legal portion.

As you've probably noticed, Hawaii is a bit "skewed" when it comes to firearms.

Next scheduled class is June 21, 2014
Even if their full up, you might want to go through the registration process as often ther is a no show or 2.

I took the LIFE Hawaii class on April 13, 2014, awesome class with a large selection of handguns for you to shoot.  The guns are from the volunteer instructor's own collections and include, but not limited to: all kinds of Glocks, S&W M&Ps, Springfield Armory, Sigs, Berettas, various 1911s, many SA and DA revolvers, and more.  Before this I have never shot a real gun and they make the process of learning very easy.  In my class, I'd say about 1/3 were military that knew how to shoot but needed the affidavit, although a lot said they learned a lot, and some had bad habits they weren't aware of.

I was checking their site about a month or so before the April 13th class and they were full and as it got closer to the class, it was still full so I planned on going to the May class.  Then about 4 days before the class I checked again for the hell of it and it showed there was space available so I immediately signed up and paid, right after I did it showed full up, I got lucky  :geekdanc:

Bill Richter is very thorough on all of Hawaii's gun laws and even pokes fun at the real stupid ones, which there are many.  The only negative of the class is not anything about the class itself but the long wait time to receive the affidavit.  I received mine on May 16th but it could have been worse as they say on their site that it could be up to 2 months or more.  :o  They are all volunteers and do the paperwork in their off time, and supposedly the hardest part is the notarizing of the affidavits is what I heard.  So if that is too long, you should look elsewhere for the class, but if you can wait I'd recommend LIFE.

That's one game I'm glad I wasn't there for in person.  90+ degrees with all those people?  Nasty.

Same like inside my room when we lose the tradewinds, minus all the other people, lol.

I really hope the Spurs pull it off this year, they should've won last year.  They're my favorite team, I like how humble and well coached they are.  I got to take a picture with Tim Duncan at the SEMA show a few years ago, they were having a hard time fitting him in, I think it was Tanner Foust's Ford Fiesta rally-x car, lol.  After he was just cruising in a t-shirt and cargo pants like a regular guy and I asked to take a pic with him and he said no problem.  Super nice guy, first time I ever really felt like a midget  then again, most people are next to a 7 footer.

General Discussion / Re: Indoor ranges that allow personal guns?
« on: May 31, 2014, 10:36:09 PM »
From what I remember the guns at Waikiki Gun Club will be chained down so that the firearms can only be pointed down range and the instructors are pretty pushy on making customers tip after they are done shooting.

Thanks for the heads up.  I hate when people are pushy on tipping, makes me tip less or not at all.
