General Discussion / Re: Another Police shooting killing suspect
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:02:38 AM »
Hope we are not heading into the "shoot first ask later" type police enforcement.....

But I do agree during violent crimes (do not know if it applies to this situation), once the law is broken it is a free game.

Afgan...Iraq ....it is not a problem that can be solve in just a decade; they have been fighting (with westerners then each other..) for way too long.  You will need at least 30-50 years to fix it if not more......  We shall ask the Chinese to help with 3-4 million man, going inch by inch then cordon off one area after another....

General Discussion / Bank robbery turns deadly @ CA
« on: July 17, 2014, 09:52:09 AM »
Stockton, Califonia - 3 robbers went into a bank and took 3 hostages with them when they left. During the almost 45 minutes long chase, they threw two of the hostage out of the car.  A 5 minutes non-stop gun fight started after police have the robbers' SUV tire out.   In the end 1 hostage and 2 robers are dead.

http://news.yahoo.com/3-dead-california-bank-robbery-gunbattle-053248726.html

I wonder if they will release the information about the gun shot wound on the hostage - AKs from the robbers or pistol/AR from the police.

Another thing I wonder - Are those AKs robbers used CA compliant (such as bullet button? )

And I sure hope this will not happen in Hawaii ........

Off Topic / SWAT = Private Incorporated
« on: June 28, 2014, 02:52:22 AM »
Hope we are not heading this way.....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-watch/wp/2014/06/26/massachusetts-swat-teams-claim-theyre-private-corporations-immune-from-open-records-laws/

This sums it up real good:" They employ cops who carry guns, wear badges, collect paychecks provided by taxpayers and have the power to detain, arrest, injure and kill. They operate SWAT teams, which conduct raids on private residences. And yet they say that because they’ve incorporated, they’re immune to Massachusetts open records laws. "

Maybe just maybe next thing we know, we will need PMCs to patrol our screets on MRAPs with M2/MK19/ITAS mounted ....(sarcasm)

“We cannot let a minority of people — and that’s what it is, it is a minority of people — hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people."

Lol ...i am really laughing right now.  So the minority have to give up their right to cope with the majority, look where that got us ? (Civil war rings bell ? Civil rights movement @60, 70 rights a bell? military segregation rings a bell? Relocation of citizens with Japanese ancestry during WWII rings a bell? )

Heck, by using her logic, since majority of US  population are white/caucasian (74%), so if that majority wants to tax heaviy on asians (5%, which is a minority), then they shall cope? (nothing against white/caucasian, just using her logic ...).

General Discussion / Re: Help with zeroing in iron sights on my ar15
« on: June 13, 2014, 12:53:44 PM »
Well I guess I will chip-in, attach are two pdfs I found around the web (thanks for whomever that made them).  One is just a regular 25m target, the other one is with where your bullet drop shall be (I think). Also boresight are great way to help you get onto the paper, I had guys back the military that just can't find their shots @ 25 yrds on a 6 feet target stand. (not that they are bad shooters, just the sights weren't zeroed for them).

Now I just have to figure out where shall I be zeroing for my Tavor..... anyone have any idea for the offset ?

Original Title:" Sheriff: Local cops need MRAPs because America has turned into 'war zone'"

"Military surplus can save departments a lot of money. In Franklin’s case, Cox estimated, it paid about $5,000 for its MRAP. The government paid $733,000 when it was new."

Sure, I will take one.  Just wondering do I need insurance for it ?  (well consider it is almost indistrucable in a civilian enviorment, no need replacement insurance right? )

On a serious note, guess this is where taxpayer $$$ went.  A 728000 discount. ( And my former unit still trainning with old un-armored 998/1025s).

General Discussion / Re: Tight Extractor ?
« on: June 07, 2014, 03:13:15 PM »
Those dry fire rounds are aluminum and the rim wears pretty fast. If rifle is new, maybe it needs a clean/lube and feed it good 5.56 ammo.

If practicing loading and malfunction drills I would recommend the brass cased dummy rounds with the orange polymer inserts.

For the rifle frame, whatever will fit in your car. Measure your trunk if you need to and build accordingly.

One of the dummy I used was a standard M855, it was dented at the rim, too.  But I guess it just needs some break-in & CLP love. Time to shop @ homedepot for some lumber ......... thanks.

General Discussion / Tight Extractor ?
« on: June 07, 2014, 02:17:59 PM »
One of my friend recently got a new Spike Tacttical's ST15, tried to teach him on how to disassemble/re-assemble it, and how the rifle operates.  But once I put one of the trainning round in, had a really really hard time to cycle/recharge it, Finally with clp and a gerber later it was out.

The extractor sinked too deep into the rim, but will it prevent a BCG having a hard time to cycle or even jam ? (can it also be a head-space for being too tight too?)

 Picture of the round:

it shall be fine after couple hundred rounds down range, right?

Also one question is for KHSC, what is the typical height you guys use for the target frame? 24" will be too short, 80" is too much to fit into a car. Using it for rifle zeroing first.   Thanks in advance .

Raw, disconnected statistics.

First of all, we should always be suspicious when someone leads a story with ratios and percentages instead of the raw underlying numbers.  This is a typical tactic which makes a stat sound bigger than it really is (66% of our employees are women, versus  We have 3 employees, and 2 are women).

Secondly, do these numbers actually mean anything useful? Since most guns traced in a criminal investigation were originally purchased out of state, what do we conclude?  Will banning guns being brought in from California reduce the number of guns traced from out of state by fifteen, or 30 percent?  Should we add another layer of "qualifying hoops" to jump through for people moving from California?  Should we require all guns originally purchased in California go through a longer waiting period or place their owners on a special "watch list?"  Of course not.

Lastly, this story doesn't say these guns were actually used in a crime, only that they were traced in the course of an investigation.  The owner could have been arrested for dangerous driving and a firearm was found in the car.

These reports may be interesting to some, but I think too many use this kind of raw data and any conclusions they concoct to support an existing agenda.

Really have no idea what the author is trying to say here ..... do not see a clear conclusion.    Let alone a misleading title "Nearly Half of Hawaii’s Guns Come From Out of State"  I think all of our guns came from other places right ? (since I am not aware that we have some type of gun manufacturing business here, I meant from raw aluminium blocks to make barrels/upper & lower).

Welcome sainteye!

It's a shame that members of our military have to go through this BS.
I've stood in line with D-force guys that were pissed because of the requirement. Do you have a hunter safety card? My understanding is that if you've taken the hunter safety course from any state you can show that and not have to take the course.

The guys here will take great pleasure in correcting me if I'm wrong!

Be sure and come out to Koko Head Shooting Complex for the Shooting Sports Fair on Fathers day weekend 10-4 both days. Hit the HDF tent in the first action bay and meet the guys, they have a wealth of experience and can point you in the best direction.

I think I will just sit through the classes or do a hunter ed (so I can go out and camp occasionally). Now the HDF part do sound fun, and I just missed the carbine range on May didn't I ..... well I will see where to get the pistol thing/hunter ed done with (still have tons of army camping gear .....)

Figured I would register after being a lurker  (well ...did not have a permit yet , but now I do!!)

Name is Gary, got my long gun permit back in April now 2 months later ended up with 2 rifles .....yeah talk about impulsive buying..lol

 A little bit about me:

Eight years in the Army Reserve, deployed 4 times to multiple places. Was a 11B, qualified almost every standard infantry weapon in the U.S. Army ( M16A4/M4, M240, M249, M2HB). M203 & MK19 did not have to qulify but had a lot of fun with it in range (even though those were blue trainning rounds).

Right after I got out of the Army, I kinda missed my buddy ( yes ...the M4 that spent 3 years with me in country/downrange). So yeah, now here I am .... lol.

One reget I do have is I did not get a memo from my commander so I don't have to take the pistol classes (eventhough I spent at least 6 hrs on a live pistol range in fort hood for shooting and being an RSO)
