Just as I suspected, the attorney general would just pass the buck. Have one of his hunch man do his dirty work.

Mr. Schick,

I am in receipt of your email dated July 3, 2016, inquiring about SB 2954 which has recently been signed by Governor Ige.  Unfortunately, the Attorney General cannot provide legal advice to private citizens.  As provided by statute:

The department shall administer and render state legal services, including furnishing of written legal opinions to the governor, legislature, and such state departments and officers as the governor may direct; represent the State in all civil actions in which the State is a party; approve as to legality and form all documents relating to the acquisition of any land or interest in lands by the State; and, unless otherwise provided by law, prosecute cases involving violations of state laws and cases involving agreements, uniform laws, or other matters which are enforceable in the courts of the State. The attorney general shall be charged with such other duties and have such authority as heretofore provided by common law or statute.  Section 26-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

I regret that we are unable to help you.

Kevin K. Takata
Supervising Deputy Attorney General
Criminal Justice Division

Aloha Representative Takai

Thank you for your prompt response.
I understand the feeling for a need to do something about the illegal use of firearms across this great nation, It is extremely alarming to see these mass shootings occurring time and time again. the problem i have is that all of the law proposed do very little to target the source of these crimes. Mass shootings continent to growing in an alarming rate because we have created a narcissistic society where every one feel they should be the center of attention and when they are not they choose to act out to get this attention. We have created a situation where people worship reality tv stars for no other reason then they are on tv. When these mass shootings happen we create a whirlwind of media coverage around them turning these evil people into stars and giving them there 5 minutes of fame. Banning a certain class of firearm (that is responsible for less then 1% of all gun deaths in the united states) will not stop these shootings from happening and will not contribute to a decline in gun violence overall. In fact the first real school shooting (Columbine) happened during the assault weapon bans with weapons were obtained illegal via straw purchases. these events happen in schools for a reason, These people plan out there attacks knowing that there is little to no threat to there safety, We teach our children to run and hide instead of allowing teachers and trained officials to fight back and end a institution before it results in the death of children. If the government of this nation really cared we would be funding training and firearms education in schools, we would be providing security and police officers in our schools and we would be preventing these situations from happening instead of disarming law abiding citizens.

An assault weapon ban as the 1992 ban showed is ineffective at combating gun violence as figures show gun violence actually increased during the ban and infact since the ban ended the number of firearms in the united states has doubled but yet the gun death rate has decreased to all time lows. Passing laws which are ineffective for feel good reasons is deceptive to the public and creates a situation that shows the ineptness of our government.

Lets enforcer the laws that we have on the books before we start making new ones that do NOTHING to solve the situation. Lets stop glorifying these shooter and making the celebrity and take away the motivation for these incidents to happen and most importantly of all lets stop putting our children in to gun free zones where these crazy people can go and kill them with no protection
Signed and sent to five of my gun buddies

FYI -- medical marijuana disqualifies you from owning firearms in Hawaii.

Just saying ...   :shaka:
It doesn't matter if we do t try... At least we can say that we stirred the hornets nest. Without Liberty, what do we have? A socialists utopia. That's my opinion and I'm not backing down.

It is much deeper than that, but  We will continue to fight.  Stay tuned for more efforts on the way, and thank you for volunteering!
Why is it deeper then? It seems more like an organization problem. I'm not the end all be all but having lived here for twelve plus years seems we have an issue getting organized. Please enlighten me. Maybe I'm the ignorant one.

AMEN to that!  We've been trying for years to get everyone rolling in the same direction. It's a very difficult thing to do.  There are so many different factions, disciplines, and facets in the shoot community.
Okay, seems to be an organizational issue then. We need to hit this like a grass roots effort. Know on doors, talk to gun stores, have actual meetings. I'm will to put in the grunt work, are the others.

OK, So i Just now got of the phone with Wolfwood, If as a group we want to go ahead and fight this were going to need to raise funds, The reason they couldn't take this on contingency (they take the case and wait for the courts to pay them) is because it might take months into years to litigate and with that they basically be operating out of pocket. I asked Wolfwood how much they would need to take this up and the magic number is $15k.

The problem is as edster stated, Untill they implement they system and we see how its going to work, were not sure what is going to happen, That being said any funds rasied could be used to fight any future 2A violation if for example they realize that rapback is illegal and cant be implemented.
London808, we might also check with Steven Stamboulieh and Allen Beck. They worked with Richard Holcomb to fight Kaiser on the HPD permitting medical process. Let me know how I can help.

After a great meeting with Sen Espero on Monday, I was able to talk to him in person regarding SB 2954. He told me to make sure I sent an email voicing my concerns to the Attorney General's office and CC him as well.

Just for the community's edifcation, I am including the contents of my email... and of course their respsonse, which was pretty unbelievable.

Feel free to discuss & share your comments

2aHawaii, we need to get better organized. How can we? Well, I have been speaking with two pro 2a lawyers on the mainland. Allen Beck and Steven Stsmboulieh. In fact, Allen Beck has worked in conjunction with Richard Holcomb. They were instrumental in getting Kaiser to correct their bad practices with releasing better information to HPD. Steven and Allen both said they want to help. But of course money talks. They know The HRA president and his assistant and as I understand there is supposed to be a fund raiser. Please inform me and the others if in fact this is true. I've tried to reach out to HRA, with no luck. I'm tired of this tyranny and want to get the ball rolling. The politicians don't care, we need to be more vigilant of our rights or they will just disappear as they are in California. Thoughts?

His name was Marcus L. Landsberg IV
I knew he was a lawyer... Not a very successful one based on his outfit. Oh sorry, was that too brash?

Yep she dident realize that the state and city twist the numbers to show what they want and what actually happens.
Right, but who was the guy?

It's certainly an issue of not understanding the in adamant tool. Who was the reseeding hairline badly dressed lawyer guy arguing what would gun people want to see happen? He was sitting to the right next to the sundress lady who feels better she didn't need a gun to protect herself.
