I like this guy!! I just spent 4 months fighting with the emission controls and other "over engineered " sensors and unnecessary added on garbage!! The auto makers have already made it nearly impossible to fix anything without hundreds of dollars worth of diagnostic tools. I got a new scanner but will never have enough knowledge to be able to use it properly!!? Pass laws to force them to make cars and trucks that can be repaired by the people DRIVING them!!! ---Well most of us!!!?

This is what's making it harder and more expensive to fix newer cars in HI.  Mom n pop mechanices cannot afford to buy every program for every car.  Too many sensors per car

Legal and Activism / Pakalolo denials

If you've been denied for a permit to acquire, try apply again. Recent SCOTUS ruling states the state cannot deny you based on Pakalolo.

Tell friends and family.
,
Then if they still deny you, LMK.

With DNA comes what Kamehameha Schools went through. Hanai was allowed after many years of not being allowed. Now a student who was hanai, wants their non-Hawaiian children to attend cause they attended. So hanai hanai and so on.  IIRC there was a lawsuit that was filed for Kamehameha to allow hanai hanai.

Off topic....that guy in the video uses a lot of facial expressions and gestures. I've never met anyone that talks like that. :stopjack:

Around 35 years ago, I noticed that my son was playing too much video games. One day it just pi...d me off. I took that Nintendo console outside and drove a pickaxe through it....problem solved.
Today, none of my kids are in jail or rehab.  ;)

I noticed when I played Halo 3 /XBOX for hours, my hand eye coordination/reflexes got better. Like I would catch stuff b4 they fell. Then I stopped playing and things would fall and I would miss catching it. Began playing again and stuff stopped hitting the ground.

In my opinion, screens used for social media are a cancer on society.  I can list a dozen problems that are worsened by the social media interactions of complete strangers.

Another use of screens I hate is being for school.  I remember my spelling assignments through 3rd grade.  We were given a list of vocabulary words on Monday.  On Friday, we had to turn in a paper with the dictionary definitions for each word.  We had to list at least one word that was synonymous with it (helped associate the definition to the new word).  And finally, we were given a quiz on Friday with the teacher speaking the word aloud and the students printing it on our papers.  Any words that we misspelled meant we needed to redo the entire test.  Everyone who got them all correct were dismissed for recess while the others reviewed the corect spellings and tried again.

Nowadays, kids don't care about learning spelling, vocabulary or grammar.  There's an app for that!  Classrooms that permit use of electronic Internet-connected devices in class is taking the path of least resistence.  Most kids don't learn anything they don't have to.

I read an article that says handwriting for kids are becoming obsolete due to typing everything now (digital age).

Due to the 2nd and 4th Circuits ruling on the vampire rule, another brief was filed by Beck/O'Grady.  It was only 6 pages, but the cost was about $1,450.  Thank you again to all those who donated.

We use screen time only when we're eating a meal outside.  It gives us peace to eat and finish our meal.

But at home, our daughter does watch a lot of youtube (via TV) since I work from home and cannot entertain her the entire time.  She has learned a lot form YT due to the repetition of shows.  Example: When she was just over 1 year old, she was counting to 50 without us teaching her because she would watch a show called Number Blocks.A boy who she plays with is the same age and is only counting to 2.  I told his grandparents about the show and in 1 week, he's counting to 10.  They thanked me.

But at the same time her doc told us no slot machine vids on YT due to the higher risk of ADD.  The brain will crave that fast stimulation (wheels spinning), which may lead to a higher risk of it.

Our daughter also never demands her tablet at home either.  Screen time IMO, limited helps parents "relax" when doing a task.  Yes, my parents never had this advantage, but with technology, changes come.  I have seen other kids when out demand their tablet and stuff.

In addition to my other post, I found that the reason for the Hawaiian Home Lands law was to "rehabilitate the Hawaiian race" after a decline in the Hawaiian population of 84% starting in 1778 thru 1840.

Imagine a program to give property to White US citizens due to a steep decline in population percentage caused by legal and illegal immigration from predominantly non-White countries.

Why is it the government's job to manipulate the racial, ethnic or ancestral composition of the population at all whether at the local, state or federal level?

With all the interracial children being born the last century from mixed race couples, the decline in ANY racial percentage is mostly due to preferences in partners, not a lack of real estate.  I fail to see how giving a single person with 50% Hawaiian blood quantum a 99 year long land lease will "rehabilitate" the race -- not unless the lease requires spouses/partners and their children also meet the 50% threshold.  Otherwise, what's the point?

I knew of only 1 100% Hawaiian, my friends dad. Which makes my friend 50% Hawaiian now as his mom isn't Hawaiian.  I think theres a bum who I woudl always see in the McCully area and he looks like 100% Hawaiian.  He's often carrying what looks like a pillow and in a tattered gray shirt.  Sometimes he's in Kapahulu. When I was in elementry school in the mid 90's, he was around wearing teh same type of clothing that he wears today.

I've always wondered why no one sued Kamehameha for their Hawaiians only like policy.  The kool aid is strong in Hawaii.

Santos-Tam was the introducer of the sensitive places ordinance and Waters voted for it too.

Santos-Tam also introduced a bill that's now ordinanhce that all bars must have NARCAN.

Seems like he likes to enable illegal behaviors.

I'm hoping Fertitta treates Caesars properties like how he does Stations.  Take care of your customer.  We were at Caesars last Thanksgiving to try Beijing Noodle No.9. The food sucked. THe slots were empty and I was the only one at the craps table at 3pm. Had maybe 2-3 on the BJ table. $25 mins. More people walking through than actually playing. Compare this to Venetian at the same hour is at least 3/4 full of gamblers on tables and 1/2 full on slots.

Harrahs is 1/2 full tables and slots about 1/3 full at the same hour.

They also redid their tier levels and not for the better. Their credit card is lame, free parkign for the 1st year only, compared to MGM Rewards credit card, you get free yearly parking by spending much less.

Rumor has it People Inc (The magazine) is looking to buy MGM.

So this all comes down to the gaming reports by the casinos are being padded. You don't buy a company when they're doing well, as you have to pay top dollar.

Just came back. Our first trip with our daughter.  Only gambled 10% of what I normally do hours wise due to our daughter with us. I don't like the idea of leaving her with my wife while I play.

So my gambling was when she fell asleep at night to the early AM and witch with Mrs. CMO. The 1st night, Mrs. CMO didn't want to play as she was tired, so I played from 2am-630am. Went back to the room and slept till 10am when our daughter woke up.  So the entire trip, I sacrificed sleep for gaming.

Compare this to "old Vegas" when it was just Mrs. CMO and me. Catch the red eye so we dont' miss an entire day. Land at 7am and go eat and check in later around 12pm. Take a 4-5 hour nap since we didn't sleep on the plane.  Then wake up at like 5pm and have the rest of the night to play. Didn't get to nap this time due to our daughter with us. So lots of coffee.

Casinos still wasn't precovid busy. But Venetian gaming floor was just as busy as normal, even precovid days.

The reason why I didn't want to leave her with Mrs.CMO and I go play is becuase she's very active.  Running and touching eveything.  Plus enjoying the sounds and lights of the slots. So maybe when she gets older and knows how to not run off, we would go back with her. Then I prob could break away to play or vice versa and Mrs. CMO goes to play.

mgm news -
bad- mgm grand buffet closing may 31
good (possibly)- mgm considering going back to free parking (and hopefully others will have to copy)

This buffet sucks for the price it's now.  When it was $12.99 precovid days, it was worth it.  Same concept of Excalibur. Excalibur's buffet is worth $9.99; not the $29.99.

This is my entire opinion on buffets. The pricier ones like Wynn and Bacchanal are worth it because they also increased the quality with the price. Compare this to Bellagio that has the same food but now double price precovid. Wicked Spoon, Excalibur, MGM, Luxor all the same concept.

I've been using my Tier1 w/sidecar for a while now.  Recently switched to a regular IWB holster with no sidecar and there's a huge difference in weight and real estate being taken up appendix.  I'm going to start using a regular IWB holster.

It also doesn't print as much, I noticed with the sidecar, my slide near my baseplate prints a little.  It goes away completely with a regular IWB holster.  I even have the padding on my sidecar to help reduce this.

The con is my spare mag now goes in my pocket.  But according to Active Self Protection, in thousands of self defense vids, he's never seen anyone have to reload during a use of a firearm for self defense.

We went there once.  Got 20 strips of bacon for like $6 back in 2017.  At the time 4 strips in any restaurant was $9.95 in Hawaii.

Rio has $3 craps now.  It started with $3 craps from 3am to 8am daily.  Now I think it's longer, mostly during the day.

Found this out by watching Steve Craps Channel.  A friend of Danny the Medic.  They let him film the table action as long as he don't film the dealers.

Good that they started this.  Hopefully more people visit that place.  It's dead.

I get that Danny is just playing to play. But he's losing money. At $3, the casino rounds down. So he's winning even money on the place bets or odds.  I learned this when Fremont had $3 craps and Mrs. CMO was betting $3 passline with $3 odds.

If you thought that you already knew what they were doing was wrong at the top of the discussion - probably like most of us - it’s because you read the code: Hawaii law already explicitly permits the proper transport (rigid locked box, etc.) on public transportation - so The Bus was way wrong to post their “no concealed carry stickers” in the first place - but that’s the kind of abuse of power we have to push back against daily.

The code is

[§134-9.1]  Carrying or possessing a firearm in certain locations and premises prohibited; penalty.
…..

 (b)  This section shall not apply to a person in an exempt category identified in section 134-11(a).  It shall be an affirmative defense to any prosecution under this section that a person is:
…..

 (b) ~ 8.  Possessing a firearm in an airport or any place, facility, or vehicle used for public transportation or public transit; provided that the firearm is unloaded and in a locked hard-sided container for the purpose of transporting the firearm;

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol03_Ch0121-0200D/HRS0134/HRS_0134-0009_0001.htm

I wouldn't call it an abuse of power.  More like the usual, someone who doesn't under stand the law.  We see the same with politicians, they don't understand the 2A right. But some are extreme and do understand it, but still ignore it. F-U, sue us.  But I'm gonna lean toward the doesn't know the law for the bus sign.

There are many HOA horror stories.

My friends building in Makiki. They were missing money from their reserves and the manager who was in charge of it disapeared.  His office was also "robbed" of all important documents.  So they had a special assessment to do reapirs that were needed.

My client was paid to be the grounds keeper. The board went with someone who was more expensive cause he's the new presidents firend.  At least my client lived on the property, so she had pride in her work.

My friends condo banned dogs when the new president took over. He's not dog friendly.  Quit shortly after the ban was passed.

Some condo's also don't take in the required reserves because that means they have to raise maintanance fees.  Which everyone will complain about and they won't be re-elected.  The city/state doesn't enforce this either.  Which is why you see many older condos hit with huge maintance fee increases, on top of what's needed for the increased insurance cost.  These older buildings need major updates to the plumbing.

The board is a thankless and unpaid job.  Some join with alterior motives.  Say they want to push no pets allowed or pets allowed, pay their friends, etc...

What's interesting is that AOAO fees for condos in Vegas are much less than Hawaii. Last time I checked some years ago for the condo's in Cosmo, that has included valet parkign for all residence, their maintanance fee was half of what mine is for my condo that's built in 2019.  Then AOAO fees for homes are like $50/mo.  Any that hits $100 or more is overpriced in the residents eyes.

The problem many AOAO's have is that the residents don't bother until it's too late.  Same like gun owners and bills here.  Attending meetings even via zoom takes up time and energy after a long work day.  Many don't vote for their board either.  At least my board is full of younger people who do take their job seriouslly.  They are by the book and very transparent with everything.  Our maint fee went up only 4% this year and we have been collecting the requried reserves since the building was built in 2019.
