Firearms and Accessories / Barrel Contours
« on: August 01, 2020, 09:42:12 PM »
I am planning to order a custom 24", 308 barrel (Criterion "Remage") from Northland Shooters Supply for a Remington 700 single shot action. This will be used mostly at Koko Head, so 100 yards, with an occasional 300 yard range on private land, no hunting. I already have a 700 5R in 308. I was planning to order the bull barrel contour, possibly fluted, but was wondering about the other contours offered; sporter, heavy sporter, light varmit, MTU(?) and light, standard and heavy palma. What are reasons to consider these other contours?
General Discussion / Discharging a Firearm on Private Property
« on: September 28, 2019, 03:25:50 PM »
I had discussions today at the gun show with Hunters Ed, HRA and HIFCO with different answers. Can someone post an actual law that states it is illegal to discharge a firearm on private residential property within the City and County of Honolulu . I'm not so great at looking up these things but what I could find was discharging a firearm toward a populated area or roadway is reckless endangering. I do know the projectile cannot leave the property and there is a noise ordinance limiting decibels and duration. I looked at previous threads about this, which also had conflicting opinions, but no post contained the actual worded law that states it is illegal to discharge a firearm on private residential property within the City and County of Honolulu.

I wasn't old enough to care, but one of my eighth grade teachers made him out to be a great President, and this was after he got impeached.
Well, for a few more weeks anyway and then it will be Lt. Colonel Oliver North.
Reloading / Anyone here load 9mm with .357 bullets?
« on: May 07, 2018, 10:13:59 PM »
I know it's done. The reason I am asking is I really like the MGHP .357, 125 grain bullets out of my .357 so I was thinking of ordering the 9mm 124 gr. MGHP bullets for my VP9 and Colt 9mm 1911.  I tried loading a couple .357s in 9mm cases, the cannelure sits above the case. It would be nice if could use the same bullet for two calibers.
Reloading / Read My Primers Please
« on: July 31, 2017, 09:54:20 PM »
This is my second batch of 308 reloads. The rifle is a Remington 700 with 26" heavy barrel. The cases are Kaleo Arms processed brass, CCI primers, Sierra 150 grain Game King Boat Tail bullets and Varget. The unfired rounds have 46 grains Varget (ran out of time to shoot), then 45.5, 45, 44.5 and 44 grains. There was at least one round in each load that the primers flattened with square edges (top row). The same thing happened on my first reloads so I wrote the powder charge on each case so I am sure I didn't mix up the charges. Is this normal, I thought the flattening and square edges happens when getting to the max charge.
Reviews / Midway
« on: January 19, 2017, 08:18:08 PM »
Today I received my third order from Midway since November which all included some heavy boxes of bullets (heads  ;)) . The orders all took advantage of their "free", ten dollars for Hawaii  >:( , shipping. The bullets are actually excluded from the "free" shipping but the on sale die sets (and other items) were not so the bullets within the order shipped "free".The orders were all shipped the same day the orders were placed, the order I received today I placed this past Tuesday morning, and were sent UPS second day which I received in three to four days, well packed. There has been a few unsatisfactory post for Midway a few months ago and at the time I had similar experiences, usually a three week wait to receive my order. Things changed?
Reloading / 308 Load with Titegroup
« on: October 10, 2016, 09:27:02 PM »
I picked up some 308 processed brass from Kaleo Arms at the gun show. I have never loaded 308 before so I checked out the Hodgdon site and was surprised to see Titegroup as a powder choice. I checked other sites and not many have tried it, and some thought the OP misread the data. Just out of curiosity has anyone tried this for a "light load"?

Reloading / Reloading 223 Using Kaleo Arms Brass
« on: May 22, 2016, 10:24:36 AM »
I purchased an ammo can of reproccessed brass from Kaleo Ams at the last gun show. I'm still pretty new to reloading and have only loaded for my revolvers. I have the press, priming tools, measuring tools, primers, powder and bullets. I was going to get the Redding Seating Die with built in crimp ring and a shell plate for 223 Rem. Is this all I need to reload this brass?
Off Topic / Thinking of Replacing My Nine Year Old Nokia Flip Phone
« on: November 14, 2015, 03:12:52 PM »
Yeah, you read it right. :-[  I went to my provider (AT&T) to get a new phone, believe it or not my Nokia ain't working so good. I was told I haven't had an upgrade in over eight years. I was all set to close an agreement on an I Phone but I would have to go to a "corporate outlet", they were an "authorized outlet" to do so. I now am considering just getting another flip phone. A few months ago at an HDF Range Day, during introductions, I was the only one who couldn't answer the question "what was the last thing you googled on your phone?" Does any one here still prefer a flip phone?

I know I can get it from Brownells and Midway but does anyone have it locally? This seems to be the go to polish for blued revolvers.

I was surprised to see this Top Fuel Dragster on ESPN.
Which do you use, if you use brushes?
I always buy nylon brushes, thought they will cause less wear on the barrel. The LGS was out of nylon but had brass. I was thinking does it matter? Maybe the brass brush cleans better?
I was introduced to one at SEC. Did some Google-ing and was pretty intrigued. Does anyone here own and shoot one?
