Seems like I am always too busy working on others projects so I took some time to freshen up my Glock 17 Gen 4!
My Original Glock 17 Generation 4. As seen in many of my video's with around ~30K through it. Finally freshened it up a bit and it is looking like new! Besides the body work, new recoil spring assembly, ejector, extractor, trigger spring!
Removed the finger groves on the front strap, reshaped and undercut the trigger guard! I don't like to go too far here. Some do a horrible job at re-contouring the trigger guard. This is where I like to see it at.
I also like to radius the sides of the trigger guard to alleviate the dreaded "Glock Knuckle"! Also note the front of the trigger guard and the point where I stop removing material. Too much material is often removed here giving the front of the trigger guard an unbalanced look when they round it off.
Re-texture here is minimal. Front strap, the front and underside of the trigger guard is re-textured. This is a carry weapon and the original Gen 4 texture is very good. A more aggressive texture is also easily achieved.
Small refinement and attention to detail. While not an issue mechanically many complain about the "Pig nose" effect of the Glock pistol. While it may be a trait of the Glock pistol small attention to detail is considered and the "pig nose" is removed. Also a slight texture above the trigger guard as a finger reference.
This photo shows the removal of the finger groves on the front strap. There is a lot to left to be desired in many finger groove removals. Attention to detail here means a clean front strap. For the Gen 4 the size of the grip without a backstrap is about ideal for myself, so I do not do a reduction on the backstrap unlike the Gen 3's. Also note the slight difference in the undercut trigger guard. Also both stock grips but the "enhanced magwell" looks like it can swallow the stock one.
Stock Glocks have a magwell opening that tend to bend inward on the outer bottom of the magwell. Re-contouring the magwell with a slight flare outward and the addition of a grip plug makes for an excellent opening for a highly efficient reload without addition of a large aftermarket magwell. Care must be given here to not alter the grip and how the magazine seats in the weapon itself! When done correctly, the mag well will work like the best of an aftermarket set up.
Again two Glock 17 Generation 4's. The differences are subtle but in conjunction with one another those small differences amount to a finely fitted and precisely tuned weapon to fit the individual shooter. It is amazing how much of a difference so many small or subtle changes to the pistol can make. Of course like anything else it is shooter dependent and not one shoe size fits everyone. That is the beauty of custom fitting the weapon to the shooter!
