I have a gen 2 in Glock 9mm. I like it. But it is definitely not the easiest gun to shoot well. A good AR would be a lot easier to shoot.

But sub 2000 cool and packs up small.

General Discussion / Re: 80% registration?
« on: December 26, 2018, 09:59:47 PM »
I’ve done it before. Doesn’t matter whether it is a rifle or pistol 80%. Make sure you have a valid long gun permit to acquire before beginning work. Once you complete it and serialize it. Take just the permit to acquire and the completed receiver into HPD and they will register it (do not bring slides, barrels, uppers etc). You are then done. HPD only has one process for any type of 80%. Long gun and and handgun 80% receivers are treated the same.

When you're issued free ammo, might as well use it at home, too.

BTW, Speer doesn't make a Gold Dot rifle bullet or cartridge in 5.56.   And the smallest Gold Dot handgun caliber they offer is a hollow point .251 bullet -- no cartridge.

So, I find it odd (but somehow not shocking) that EEF has 5.56 Gold Dots now and also plans to buy .22 magnum Gold Dots later, when neither exists.

UPDATE:
After typing that, I had a thought.  When I double-checked the LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY website, Speer DOES make a .22 WMR for Cops.  And what do you know?  They also make a .223 round for LAW ENFORCEMENT, but no 5.56.

I guess I should have realized he shops where the Cops shop.   :geekdanc:

Both of those Gold dot 223 and 22 wmr are sold on the civilian market and can be bought easily online and in some stores on the mainland for sure. It might just be that no one locally stocks them normally.

Federal HST 9mm 124 grain standard pressure is what I use.

After researching many hours and viewing many ballistic tests I believe HST is the best performing defensive handgun round for the widest range of scenarios. Also through my research it seems that HST is one of the best performers in other calibers and weights as well.

And as for defensive AR rifle round. I use varmint type ammo to help prevent overpenetrarion. The specific ammo I have is 50 grain gray polymer tipped from federal.

The AR rounds should not overpenetrate. And in the case of a miss, it seems they give the best chance of breaking apart after passing through thin walls.

General Discussion / Re: Glock 80% Build

So when you registered your firearm was it completely built?  Or 81%?

I took the completed frame with all parts intstalled. But I did not bring slide or barrel.

And just for everyone’s information, I had a friend of mine who is HPD inquire directly with the firearms division, before I started building, just to be sure I was doing it the right way according to HPD’s interpretation of the rules before I started building.

When I went to register my poly80 frame they told me they register all of them using a long gun permit to acquire. They told me you can’t even apply for a permit to acquire when it is still an 80% untouched, because technically it isn’t a firearm yet, it is just a paperweight.

I can understand colt808 interpretation of the laws. But I can tell you from firsthand experience building and successfully registering a polymer80 pistol frame here in Honolulu, that HPD does not follow the rules you said.

All you need to have is a long gun permit to acquire and take your completed and serialized poly80 frame down to Hpd and tell them you want to register it. They will do it on  the spot and you will be good to go.

General Discussion / Anybody with kaiser apply for permit lately?
« on: April 06, 2018, 10:55:56 AM »
I have a friend with kaiser wanting to apply for a permit. I was just wondering if anyone has gone lately to apply and if there were any problems with the kaiser insurance situation, or if those problems go sorted out.

General Discussion / Re: Tupola for Governor
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:22:07 AM »
I would very much like to go, if I am not on a trip. Tupola has a very good record community wise and is very effective and listens to her constituents needs (rather than just towing the party line etc). I think she would be a better governor than anyone we have had lately based on that alone. I would like to find out more about her 2a stance, and I hope it is a friendly one. Because that would just be the icing on the cake.

Okay I'm not seeing how this is legal in Hawaii.  Might be legal under federal laws, but it still looks illegal under Hawaii state law as Hawaii has no definition of "antique firearm".

If they are designed to be fired using loose black powder i.e. Muzzle loader. They do not require registration.
