I love how the government in this video says to stay where you are and wait for federal help.  sorta like how Obama says you can keep your health insurance plans...

That "plan" worked great in New Orleans!  (SARC)  This is a fine idea if lost in the woods, or for a kid lost in a grocery store.  Waiting for help is a passive approach.

Many people who were too boneheaded to evacuate when told to were stranded at the Super Dome for days.  The "victims" had no clue about taking care of themselves.  They let refuse collect all over, didn't have adequate facilities working, and the water and food situation was messed up by the Louisiana governor preventing supplies from entering the state supplied by FEMA.  I would be finding higher ground, shelter, and supplies.

In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, the Philippines is experiencing a blackout in real life NOW!

http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSBRE9A603Q20131113?irpc=932

Makes you really wonder how prepared Hawaii is to deal with a Cat 1 hurricane (like Hurricane Iwa), much less a Cat 4 hurricane (like Iniki), particularly with "our" legislators/governors continually raiding the Hurricane Relief Fund.   :grrr:

scary to imagine.  Cat 3-4 would be tearing roofs off even newer construction.  as is, stores on as short as a 6 hour restock level, they would be stripped in hours if we get any advance notice so got to locate the warehouses in aftermath and sand island is a long way off for most but good rummaging if not get shot :)

speaking of which I see stories blaming guns & gun culture for hampering relief efforts in the P.I.   they just never quit trying the spin do they.

Just watched it last night.
It was pretty heavy.

The evolution from party - the govt. will save us soon, to little anxious - maybe they won't, to lawless and desperate - they ain't comin'.

It convinced my wife's co-worker (who watched it the first go round)  to start preppin' at least a little bit. ( She thought we were nuts )

As Aiea78 preaches, and the show clearly illustrates:  Water, Water, Water.

... everywhere, and not a drop to drink?  :D    kinda' like here surrounded by salty ocean?  haha

We got to talk about that show esp. the bf "problem" that cropped up.  I almost couldn't watch it so full of fail like the NYC high rise couple scenario.  Why isn't anyone coming?  Oh, they coming all right just be patient.

The biggest fail was that they depicted the Red Cross evacuation centers as being orderly and uncrowded
With only a minor scuffle over water that ended quickly and easily

So much drama! I detest that shaky cam effect. Reminds me of "Blair Witch Project".
I could not stand watching more than a few minutes without getting irritated by the shaky cam and stupid people scenarios.
I suppose if the intent of this drama is to put some fear into unprepped sheeple, it might work.

Personally, when I was a small kid, I saw a movie called "Panic In The Year Zero" made in 1962.
That movie impressed me with the importance of being tough in a bad situation. I made my kids watch it. Netflix has it.
A few years later the Mormon Church started to preach the importance of preparations for disasters including the 3-day bug out bag concept and long term food storage.
My family has been prepping for over 40 years.
What, Me Worry?

My favorite scene was when the high rise couple returned in victory with their can of peaches, then realized they only had electronic can openers.  Buaahahhaahahah.  All the while Im yelling at the TV about how the guy is a moron opening the can with a knife like that, and then cuts himself, and im laughing while my gf family is all omg.  Hahahahahaha.

Some, well most of it seemed scripted though.  What kinda prepper doesnt teach his 10yr old son how to shoot?  Just record and call daddy if anything.  My kids will know how to shoot by the time their that age.

And who takes their 2 young sons on a raid of their neighbors house.  They obviously didnt have any firearms and were just cruising around.

Moral of the show, the government will take care of you.  Report to the closest FEMA camp. Everything will be ok.

And did anyone catch that part about martial law, and how the government can take your supplies if you prepped.

If one is privy to the weaknesses in the infrastructure and emergency preparedness plans, response etc, then more would be concerned.  A direct hit from a true Cat1 or higher hurricane would be devastating here.  Telephone / electrical poles are rated at 70mph winds, however many have rot and termite issues and will go down in lesser winds.  Look how much trouble HECO has from time to time when they have system issues and power goes down.  1 week without power in many areas and rolling outages just trying to get the system rebooted caused by a faulty spike in the system.  Imagine how long it would take to fix and to restore power if most of the above ground poles and power lines go down in a major storm.  We don't even have that many spare poles / transformers here in the islands.  Tidal surges, flooding, homes destroyed.  It would be a long road to recovery here.  Sometimes being bigger or more populated or more advanced in our communities is not always a good thing for people who come to rely too heavily on it always being there at a flip of a switch, or getting and having their groceries readily available on a daily basis from the store.

Yes, as I understand it, you can be committing a crime if you overstock on supplies.  There was even a thread on this on 2ahawaii a couple of years ago.

I wonder what the "bunker guy's" relations with his neighbors will be after the power came back on and Jason dropped the rifle.

Will they all let bygones be bygones?  Will they ask for his advice on setting up their own survival systems?

Will they set up a wider survival system which includes all the neighbors?

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.
