Any old timers out there have anything to say on this? Classic Browning Hi-Power 9mm vs CZ-75 9mm.
The Hi Power is a hand-fitted masterpiece from another time that can still hold its own against modern designs, while the CZ-75 is a modern, mass-produced pistol. I don't see them as being in competition with each other, especially since the Hi Power can cost double what you can get a CZ-75 for.
But maybe we can compare them at two different price points if we take some liberties.
$1,000 gets you a new Browning Hi Power Mark III or Standard. (The Mark III has fixed sights and a baked epoxy over parkerizing finish, while the Standard has adjustable sights and a blued finish.) $1,000 can also get you a CZ-75 Shadow from the CZ Performance shop. I think the tuned CZ is the winner at this price point.
At the $500 price point, you can get a new regular CZ-75 or a used FN GP-35/Hi Power.
Cole Distributing is where you should be looking for used Hi Powers. He imports and reparkerizes a lot of handguns, including Hi Powers.
For example, here is a pitted Israeli Army Hi Power with a replacement slide for $350:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=383839987Or a very good condition one with the original slide for $480:

Anyway, at the $500 price point, I think that used Hi Powers win easily.
There are many people who produce the hipower. If you get your hands on a all orginal Browning your a lucky guy. Fn makes them which I like too, then there are supluss Israeli or feg builds too. But this has been the standard issue military and law enforcement pistol for many years previous to glocks (which says something) even thrle masad used it for anti terrorist urban combat and police issue
All "proper" Hi Powers are made by FN. Newer ones are machined in Belgium and assembled in Portugal. The only difference between the FN pistols and the Browning pistols is that the ones that Browning Arms Company imports ship with magazines with an epoxy-over-park finish so that the magazine safety glides over them easier.
Also, keep in mind that although the Argentine Hi Powers made by FM are built with licensed FN tooling and plans, the Israeli Kareen pistols are not, and are not parts compatible with FNs. And although the Hungarian company FEG did make a small number of pistols that ripped off the FN design closely enough to be parts-compatible, the P9RCs that make up the majority of the FEG "Hi Powers" are not parts compatible with FN pistols.
