Optics legal in Service Rifle shooting

Read that the CMP will be allowing optics in the service rifle category. The AMU service rifle team will be showing up with Nightforces http://nightforceoptics.com/nxs/1-4x24
So there is an opportunity for tactical minded shooters to try "service" rifle shooting and earn nationally recognized awards for it. If you're in the service, awards are permanent orders.

Interesting.  I find it harder to shoot standing and sitting positions with an optic vs the standard irons.  With optic you can see every movement easily, it is very distracting.  I guess with practice it could be an advantage, and 1 to 4 X should help with toning down the movement.  I can see the advantage in prone slowfire.

Hey Ren,

do you have a link to any references stating that they are considering allowing the optics? I want to be able to quote black and white before just quoting a forum post. Also, I don't want to pull the trigger on buying optics until I see it set in stone.

Thanks!

Not set in stone yet. But a lot of people over at http://nationalmatch.us are talking about it to include the former coach of the AMU and some All Guard shooters.
I think I'm done with traditional service rifle HP shooting - I need combat EIC points.

I'd wait for the official rules to come out then see what the .mil teams are using.
I tried shooting with a scope with my dedicated .22 and it takes the fun out of it.
My service rifles are just Army SDM clones now since the CMP allowed rails and carry handles.
My rifles now weigh 10 lbs instead of the usual 17 pounder.
More fun.
