I normally put a lock on my suitcase, not sure if it's required but I'd recommend doing it.  Only thing is the loops are really small for a lock.  The only thing I can find that fits it is a TSA lock.

I wish they included a pair of scissors to cut the zip ties.  They may have zip tied it because of the baggage area shooting a couple months ago, I dunno.  It was very inconvenient because I had to go to the NRA convention so I changed my clothes in the restroom.  I had to unzip one of the corners of the bag and yank half of my clothes out to find my knife so I could cut it off.

Can you take a pic of the handgun case inside that you used?  I got a feeling TSA is going to give me problems.

As long as you have a hard side gun case with non TSA locks inside of a locked suitcase with TSA locks and gun unloaded, you will have no problems.  Don't sweat it.  It is really easy to travel with a handgun.

If you have a case you're thinking of using, maybe it'd be more helpful if you'd post a picture and the specs:  Make & Model.

Also post a picture of your suitcase so we can see   which one will be yours on the conveyor   if it adds security or not.

CAGPT = care and give protection to.

Tie wraps are easily solved by a toe nail clipper in the front zipper of the suitcase.
I think, therefore I am armed.

My suitcase didn't get zip ties leaving georgia, so it must have been an Oakland or Atlanta policy.

Nothing special about the pistol case.  Got it for $20 somewhere.  I use 2 padlocks to secure it.

I use the .22 conversion cases like RSN but I LOCK THEM INTO my hard sided Samsonite suitcase after check in inspection.  :geekdanc:
That way it is safe and "protect's TSA, baggage handlers etc...
The Samsonite has a 3 digit tumbler lock and I write the combo right next to it.
I'll see if I can get a ladder and pull that 'special" suit case down, probably late Sunday night  or Monday
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER ?

 Finally got into the attic.
I figured to do this when those guns from baggage went "missing" ("protect's TSA, baggage handlers etc...")
I used longer locks and got two cases attached

Your suitcase lock has to be a TSA one or they will cut that lock.  Your hardside gun case INSIDE your suitcase should have nonTSA locks and the airline will affix a Firearms Declaration on the outside of that case.

Good to hear things worked out well.

Did TSA take a round for testing before you locked the case up? Or were you joking? Just wondering how they got access to the ammo.

Enjoy your trip!

So ammo wasn't inside a locked container?

Mystery missing round.

To clarify, I've only flown with ammo inside a locked case with my guns.

Update after my trip:

So I had no issues with HA or TSA.  I guess as long as you're nice to the HA checking in person, they don't really inspect your bag to much.  They just asked me to open the gun case to make sure there was no round in the chamber.  I had the slide separated from the frame and a lock going through the frame.  Finally found a use for that bike type lock that came with the pistol.

She took a quick glance and that was it. I did read horror stories about people having problems that's why I've been so worried.  They didn't even look at what kind of lock I have on the suit case.

Also when I got to the checked baggage counter I said "Inside my suit case, I would like to declare a firearm".  Not "I HAVE A GUN".

But TSA did take 1 HP bullet from me.  I brought 1 box of 50rds and when I got to Vegas, 1 round was missing.

Howdy everyone, first time poster with a question on this subject.  First off, great info here, appreciate all the posts that make it easy for this kind of thing here.
I'll be flying via United next month with 2 pistols in a pelican case(with padlocks)that will be inside one of my bags.  My question is, Agricultural inspection.  Just toss it on the belt business as usual or anything I have to do before hand?
Forgive me if I missed this, I did read through it and another post I found as well but never came across anything pertaining to to this.

All checked bags must have an agriculture inspection sticker on them.  If the gun case is inside another bag, don't remove it.  They can X-ray and tag the outer bag with the gun inside.
