and turn in programs?

It doesn't bother me. So long as stolen guns are returned to the owner and I am not funding it.

If it makes the anti civil rights activists feel like its a win for gun control, go ahead.

That’s what I was wondering about the Australian buy back. I woulda buried them in back yard and told them they were stolen (or lost at sea when my boat sank).

If its voluntary then its a good thing.  Some people probably have a gun lying around the house that they want to get rid of.  Maybe they inherited and don't know how to get rid of it or are afraid its not registered.  Maybe stolen guns will be returned to their owners.

They shouldn't advertise it as a crime reducing measure.

If only we could contact those people before they turn the guns in.  Could get some cheap bargains and nice vintage stuff

They should do the buy back by weight.  Quick everyone fill barrels with cement to add weight.

A couple of buddies bought an "estate sale" from a guy who was terminally ill.  While they got some nice guns at nice prices (I also benefitted), there were a lot of issues with the sale.  The widow now accusing them of accepting a deal where they knew the value of the guns were higher than the guy offered.  Last I heard the lady was thinking of suing.  Not sure what grounds she would sue, but in this day and age, seems like anything is possible.  There were also a couple of "uncle's" guns and the uncle has passed away, so no paper trail.  Anyways, just gotta be ready for the headaches of the bargains.

Wait Until You Hear the Clever Way Private Gun Buyers Invaded a Gun Buyback Program in Seattle
Jan 28, 2013 2:21 pm

Quote
The Seattle Police Department held its first gun buyback event since the 1990s this weekend, offering people
gift cards for their firearms. However, dozens of private buyers showed up in an effort to acquire the guns using
the so-called gun show loophole, which allows guns to be sold without a background check.

Hundreds of people showed up Saturday morning to give their rifles and shotguns as well as semi-automatic
rifles to police in exchange for gift cards worth $100 and $200 respectively, KING 5 reports. The police planned
to destroy the guns and use them as rebar in local construction projects.

Meanwhile, a number of private buyers set up a makeshift gun show-style event and offered cold hard cash for
guns and even lured customers with donuts.

“I pay cash, I don’t give Amazon gift cards,” one dealer told a gun seller.

That would deny the liberals their much vaunted media event of running over the bought guns with heavy machinery.

I heard about that.  Made me

Then again, there are those "improvised" guns that get picked up with these buy backs.

I would like to try and keep government out of things as much as possible.  Implement the buyback at the stores.  Stores can purchase the gun offering more money.  If the stores don't want the gun, then they'll just offer whatever the buyback rate is and give it to the police department for disposal.

History reveals the stupidity of gun buyback programs

Quote
Gun buyback programs are yet another way for gun grabbers to feel good about themselves, and they do
absolutely nothing to stop gun violence. Gun owners could argue that such programs are better than alternative
means of taking away guns—like legislating them away—but when programs only seem to help the perpetrators
of gun violence and disarm potential victims, the problem of gun violence only gets worse, and no amount of free
pizza is going to solve it.
