I finally compiled the list of HRA gripes from my previous thread (https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=28914.0).  I also added some possible solutions and volunteers needed to help correct the problem.  Looking for other issues, also more solutions too.  I know Bushido and London808 need their membership card,  Drck1000 needs the email newsletter, Dustoff003 needs prior emailed newsletters.

Need volunteers, let me know if you can help fill them.  Can't solve these problems if you don't help.

1.   Missing HRA membership cards and emailed newsletters
        a.   I'll talk to Harvey this weekend.
        b.   Get a volunteer to assist with membership and emails.
        c.   Archive newsletters on the website

2.   Board members are not testifying.
        a.  Havey should talk to the board about testifying.
        b.  Host a legislative workshop for HRA members.

3.   Website is missing information and no new postings.
        a.  Get a volunteer webpage designer to assist.

4.     Newsletter looks dated.
        a.  Get a volunteer publisher to assist.

5.   Copy and paste facebook postings, nothing original or local.
        a.   Facebook manager should attend the Social Media Club of Hawaii events.
        b.    Get a volunteer social media consultant to assist.
        c.     Ask membership and gun community to submit pics and articles.

6.     HRA seems shorthanded.
        a.  Get a volunteer coordinator to seek and manage volunteers.

7.   Information not getting out to membership and gun community.  Emailed info is late.
        a.  Have a central email account that board directors and officers can access.
        b.  HRA should be more open with communications and what they're doing.

8.   HRA is Oahu centric, no activity on the outer islands.
        a.  Outer island directors need to meet with their communities.
        b.  Volunteers needed to assist the directors.

9.   Bad past experiences with HRA.
        a.  Leave the past behind, start new.
        b.  Identify these people and invite them to a HRA event to meet the members.

10.   Status on Rapback
        a.  I'll find out.
        b.  Have London808 and HRA give updates on status of RAPBACK.

11.   Membership renewal is a pain.
       a.  Offer multiyear membership options. Nevermind, you can already do this.
       b.  Mail a postcard reminder or phone call if there is no response to email reminder.

12.   Gun stores register memberships
        a.   Offer free or discounted business membership if the sell x# of memberships to their customers.

13.  Info for military and other members arriving in Hawaii
       a.  Improve website information.
       b.  Advertise website to the military provost marshall, MWR, and welcoming incoming personnel unit.
       c.  Seek assistance from Puuloa Club and Schofield Rod and Gun Club.

14.  Youtube video channel
      a.  Get a volunteer to create videos.

15.  Need a marketing plan and public relations.
      a.  Get a volunteer with a marketing background.

16.  Network and communicate with community, business, and clubs
      a.  Create an outreach committee.

One is the shark and the other is the remora I don’t know which is which. To me not knowing LIFE seems like a cult inside HRA. LIFE gets pages of space in the HRA newsletters.

The original LIFE was "Ladies Involved In Firearms Education"
Formed circa 1978. My friend's wife would write articles for the HRA newsletter from a women's point of view.
I am unfamiliar with the history of HRA but many of the same people were in both organizations.

LIFE (Currently Lessons In Firearms Education) is an organization of NRA-certified instructors and training counselors. LIFE's purpose is to offer firearms training, which manifests in the monthly classes and monthly fun shoots.

HRA is an organization dedicated to the furthering of shooting sports and second amendment rights. They provide scholarships, lobby, and ostensibly provide a focal point for people who have an interest in the 2nd A.

HCR PAC is the organization set up to make donations to political figures.

Now, the reality is that most of the people who are active in the HRA became so after getting involved with LIFE. Were you to go to a LIFE event, then turn around and go to an HRA event, you would see many of the same faces running things. There's a tremendous amount of overlap in personnel. And the organizations also are extremely cooperative, each using its resources to facilitate the goals of the other.

If you were to look at an HRA board meeting, then at a LIFE board meeting, what you would see is that half of the faces are the same; they just swapped hats. Both organizations are really just a handful of motivated people; and to a dangerous degree, it's the same handful.

Thanks Zipps for the info.  I would say of all the issues, seems like HRA needs to get more with the times.  As in social media/online stuff.  It's also more cost effective in the long run than printing envelops/paper and mailing them out.  Example, like this forum.  I get a lot of my Hawaii info from here.  Thanks Macsak for telling me about it.  I try and spread the word also.

TomG got it covered and he's definitely "been there and done that" in terms of HRA, LIFE, etc. 

I believe at least some of the issues are one of awareness or lack thereof, on BOTH sides.  Again, HRA could certainly do better, but I also see alot being expected of those organizations that 1) they do but folks aren't necessarily aware of; 2)  they do but maybe not as effectively as folks expect them to be; and 3) folks just want to gripe and not really willing to step up to help. 

I got involved with HRA and then with LIFE, but to me they are pretty much one in the same and "different" hats like TomG mentioned.  HRA is a much wider group and LIFE is a focused section of that, at least IMO. 

Believe it or not, HRA is open to evolution, but again, even the board members are all volunteer and have day jobs, lives, etc. 

Regarding board members testimonies, I've seen their testimony.  Just maybe not in their names that are listed on the HRA directory, for whatever reason. 

As for those who may want to run for board positions, I say got for it.  Many times, elections are "ok, so same folks gonna stay on for next year" because not many step up.  Myself included.  I do applaud anyone who is willing to take those things on, like Zips is dedicated to do.
