Greetings Everyone
« on: August 02, 2019, 08:39:43 PM »
I may be relocating to Oahu in the not too distant future from the mainland and have a few questions regarding what I can bring into the state.
As far as I can tell suppressors are a no go unless used for hunting and limited to use on rifles. So I may not poses any suppressors for pistols.
It seems NFA items in general are not allowed. SBR's etc. Even non NFA items like AR pistols and high capacity magazines are also not allowed.
Also what is this about para military looking pistols? Would my XDM fall into this category? I do realize the magazine capacity is a problem but I can install blocks.

Any input appreciated
Dave

No suppressors at all in Hawaii unless you are a law enforcement officer.

AR pistols are allowed as long as they are not semi-auto or the magazine is permanently affixed

Para military looking pistols is not a legal classification in Hawaii. Assault pistol is however your standard glock type pistol doesn't usually qualify.

Rifle minimum barrel length 16", shotgun minimum barrel length 18 inches.

*Edited to make it more accurate.

Correction:  AR pistols are allowed as long as they are not semi-auto OR have the magazine permanently fixed in the magwell (nondetachable mag).  If you read the definition of an assault pistol, it's basically a Chinese menu of "if you have this, then you can't have that."  If you have a semi-auto, then you can't have a detachable magazine.  It's difficult to imagine not having at least two of the enumerated characteristics, so making so you have to cycle manually after each shot or epoxying the magazine into the receiver are the most common "fixes" to make them legal.

Beginning of statute:

Quote
"Assault pistol" means a semiautomatic pistol that accepts a detachable magazine and has two or more of the following characteristics:

     (1)  An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

     (2)  A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward hand grip, or silencer;

     (3)  A shroud that is attached to or partially or completely encircles the barrel and permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the second hand without being burned;

     (4)  A manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded;

     (5)  A centerfire pistol with an overall length of twelve inches or more; or

     (6)  It is a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm;

but does not include a firearm with a barrel sixteen or more inches in length, an antique pistol as defined in this section, or a curio or relic as those terms are used in 18 United States Code section 921(a)(13) or 27 Code of Federal Regulations section 478.11.

Definitions:

Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Speaking of. Let’s put in a pitch for the fine freedom minded folks of the Hawaii Firearms Coalition. (Get on board the winning team!) https://hifico.org/

We haven’t heard a lot from them lately which means their too busy wiping their asses with the state in court to post. Join up. It’s money well spent.

Read and understand the entire HRS134 and post questions.

I had to read each line a few times to comprehend it.  I do the same when ever traveling with a gun into another state also.
