UN small arms treaty

What's the deal with it?  I've been hearing about it lately.
‘‘I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.’’
‘‘To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.’’
-George Mason

I think this was big last month and has quickly quited. The Washington Times put out an editorial that the UN small arms treaty would commit the US to disarming its citizens. From what I remember, Secretary Clinton met with the UN and said that she supported the treaty process.

From what I can find, there is nothing binding in what the US has said so far and there is no treaty finalized.

Hehehehe I don't think the blue hats are up to the task of disarming us. They have a hard enough time as it is in countries to poor to practice or outfit in the latest gear and gadgets. I'm no expert, but I think that the second most well equipped army in the world has got to be the American public. Some citizens have better and bigger guns than most PDs!
And who would enforce this? The cops, our military? Yea right, of course they did in katrina, but nationwide? You'd have absolutely no room in any jail because not many would voluntarily hand 'em over, they would need to systematically search every home, nook and cranny in the US. Doesn't seem feasible to me.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen though, but if tried I can definitely see a civil war going down. Lol, Ted Nugent and the roughriders holy shit!

This issues seems to get a lot of press, and even the NRA uses it to garner support against those that might sign onto the treaty. And, while I think it is stupid, both in terms of general concept (remove all the small arms from everyone and there will be no gun deaths) and in historical perspective (ie despotic governments disarming and then killing/subjugating the citizens who now have no means to resist) and that those who choose to buy into this drivel be removed from office, but a treaty, either with the UN or another country cannot superceed the Constitution.

I had a somewhat contencious discussion with the NRA rep that called me just the other day....I had to preface my response with the fact that I was an HRA member and generally supported their mission, but that I couldn't understand utilizing limited resources to spread this falsehood in an attempt to create unfounded fears....IMHO we, the gun owners need to stay on message with facts, not scare tactics....
