I set a motion detector alarm on the security camera because too many people kept sneaking up on us. It's annoying when it goes off but provides enough time to respond.

Having time to respond is optimal if you're at home and prepared for a home invasion.

What's more likely is the motion will trigger the camera/s to record the event and help identify the bad guys/gals after they've entered the property and before you can react -- assuming you're even there.
