Now. What comes next? Nothing.

They will ignor this poll. And then they will come out with another. Please dont be discouraged. We have won this round. No anti story from the biased SA is a win for us!

Well, isn't that how it works? Occupiers protested for days on end while the rest of us folks have to work. I figure that's how most polls and statistics in the media are derived, leading to the skewed left bias.

Yesss! My pals came through too  :geekdanc:

Even if the websites don't care what the result is, at least we smash every one of their short sighted polls into tiny bits  :)

Voting more than once is a complete waste of time and here's why:

Online polls are written to prevent "poll spamming". A cookie to prevent multiple votes is a small part. Polls also include a few lines of code that runs a script at set intervals. That script will scan the IP address of those who voted and multiple votes from the same IP are deleted or the IP blocked. And that is the important part because clearing your cookies might let you vote again, but your IP address remains the same.

This would explain how some have voted several times and have the numbers jump only to see them drop back down. It's not a conspiracy or media bias.

Hope that makes sense...

Interesting. Every time I voted the "no" vote went up and never went down. It was 69% yes to 31% no when the poll was first posted on this site, and by the time it ended it was 39% yes and 61% no. In addition, Star Advertiser polls tend to bring in about 2,000 votes. This one had 4,311. I think that indicates our votes were counted.

BTW, we should use this poll against the anti's when we write to our legislators, etc... You know for dang sure they'd use it against us if it went in their favor.

Hi Colt808,

IP addresses are not a good indicator of unique users because sometimes, there are several people behind a firewall using the same IP... Hence websites need to use cookies to identify the user on the other end. When you clear your browser cookies, this removes the old cookie and gets a new cookie from the website, so new user. It's not a great tool so some require email addresses, which is also not great since people can continue to create new emails using a free service... But that's another story.

The cookies used for a poll are very basic and not really used as an identifier like most websites. The one you get from SA is likely just a date/time and vote#...so no identifier and nothing special. While you're correct about IP addresses not being very good to identify who voted, scripts do account for firewalls, hubs, etc, that's the purpose of interval checks instead of just allowing 1 per IP. It's set to measure votes per IP/per minute and anomalies outside of the range get tossed. The same is applied for polls that require email addresses...there's a set # allowed from an IP. One could probably get around it by using a proxy or refreshing their IP, but I still don't see the point of cheating a poll.

Do you honestly believe that the gun hating Mazie Hironos out there didn't vote numerous times in this poll?

Do you really believe that this poll or any other easily manipulated poll truly reflects public opinion.

also, they may do like costco did and claim that attention from blogs swayed the vote
i bet if it were a landslide in the other direction, they would've ignored the ballot box stuffing

I also watched that costco poll.  They repeated over and over that the poll needed to be discounted due to the way it turned out.  Real messed up IMO.  And I watched this poll from the morning and the yes votes where climbing just as quickly and fast as the no in the beginning.  Telling me there was a bunch of anti's fooling with the numbers in the morning time.  Just so happened that this time around more of Us worked together to make it go the other way.

Most in Hawaii don't know whats going on, are too busy to do anything with steady conviction, or don't really care one way or the other.
