Hey! We got the land and space, you keep the people!
Besides, you already got Kokohead, Schofield, Puuloa, etc. We got squat.
Kokohead does not have enough space for the people here. With pistol (bullseye) the number of lanes is really a lot less than it should be, but the bulk of the people don't use it. The bulk of the people are either at the rifle or silhouette. Silhouette proves that a "pay to play" system would work. There are a number of restrictions that make shooting at Kokohead less than fun, but seeing how many new guys there are, from a safety standpoint I understand why the rules are there.
Schofield is at the mercy of the ratio of the associates:active duty/DOD. There is a current upspike from the military/DOD so it helps out, but realistically even the range there does not have enough space. There are days where I think there are just as many people there than at the pistol/rifle/silhouette side at Kokohead. The range access is spotty and at the mercy of the military training needs..........for instance this month I don't think there are any ranges that have been secured other than skeet.
Puuloa is rather restricted in who and what you can shoot. Primarily you are looking at match shooting under the CMP program.
Finally, you folks have more places on the outer islands where you can shoot. The LEOs won't be thinking it's a nut and be sending out the SSD to get you. You shoot on Oahu and chances are good you are going to get arrested.............case in point search the whole air gun/cemetary thing............
