airgun question: crosman 2240, does it have dovetails?
« on: May 28, 2013, 11:01:37 PM »
im asking because im about to buy one of these pistols and turn it into a nice carbine and i want to mount a red dot or scope on it but i dont know if the stock 2240 has a dovetail breech. ive been looking for info on this all over forums but couldn't find anything. does anyone have experience with these 2240s?

if no dovetails, what are my options?

There's no dovetail, but you can get a clamp or "sleeve" type mount to attach on the barrel.

You have to buy a metal breech from Crosman.  Been out of stock for a while, about $40.  Much more secure than the clamp on stuff, and what Crosman uses on their custom shop line of guns, and the higher end  versions of the 2240 like the 2300 and up.

Stock breech is plastic with no grooves. You will need to change out to a steel breech mentioned below or buy the barrel mt  scope mt bases for 2240/2260 etc.

There is a guy that has them ---Bryan and Associates----He specializes in seals and parts for all kinds of old air guns. I have ordered seal kits from him to repair old Benjamin and Sheridan air rifles.

Hope it helps
