Gun safe temperature and humidity level

Would anyone know what are the optimum temperature/humidity levels a gun safe should be kept at?

Well I don't know what the optimum temperature/humidity level would be, but I have no rust issues in my gun safe in Kanoehe that is regularly at 65% humidity and 68 degrees. A dehumidifying rod is the best possible purchase you can make to keep rust at bay.

I live out in Ewa Beach so its usually warm here. Just threw my cigar temp/humidity gage in the safe to see what the reading will be. Thanks for the input.

i live in niu valley
i have a "12 gun" safe from lowe's
gots 2 of those plugin to dry out dehumidifiers
if i have them both fully charged, they can lower the humidity to 60 percent
if they run out, the humidity is usually right around 70 percent
not sure what is optimum, but i figure every little bit helps

I used to have those plug-in units but found out they don't work too well in a safe. They work great in a closed, sealed container, but in the case of a gun safe all they do is pull moisture out of the air that is quickly replaced. It wasn't too apparent to me at first but when I disassembled a rifle of mine it was rusty below the wood line. Never had that problem again once I got the dehumidifying rod. A cheap solution is to stick a powered incandescent bulb in the safe-the heat output from the bulb will create a similar effect.

I got a 14 gun safe from sports authority so its not really too big. My townhouse is usually cool so shouldnt be too bad but if it is then will look into getting dehumidifiers. Thanks for the input macsak

yeah, i want to switch to a dehumidifying rod
so i don't have to plug in the two units twice a week
if i do it once a week, they are fully pink (no dehumidifying effect left)
good thing i am OCD, so i always remember to charge them
haven't installed the dehumidifying rod yet because my safe is FULL :)

Just checked my gage earlier during the day and its 81 degrees with 56% humidity. That will probably drop a little with the night temperature.
