That's my point. Most of us recognize that we are all part of the problem  by our presence on this island.  But some folks think they're so special that they don't have to share any of that burden. So their knee-jerk reaction is to oppose any new development. Those who cry loudest about  "stop development" or "keep the country country" are usually the biggest hypocrites. What they mean is "I got my piece of the rock; screw those of you who don't. "  Or "don't fuck with the aina now that I'm here. Never mind what happened before I came."

Like the people opposing the second residential tower at the old advertiser building, because it will ruin their view.   :wtf:
I got mines so don't build another tower

I hope you guys aren't saying Kailua deserves any more police and prosecutor attention than say, Ewa Beach or Wahiawa.  With the high number of illegal rentals (which demand city services but contribute little to the tax  base) and absentee landlords there, politicians and bureaucrats might figure they're justified paying LESS attention to Kailufornia.

Anyone who lives in Enchanted Lake (that's right -- no S) can pipe down about saving Kailua from development. That used to be Kaelepulu Marsh and your home is a blight on the Hawaii I knew.

As for Kawainui: What, are they nuts? Wait for the next rain like 31 Dec 87. Between that and the rise in ocean levels, it will once again  become Kawainui Bay.

If I remember correctly the (massive) flooding was due to blockage in the drainage canals. My friend's house got flooded and my aunt's house just missed getting flooded.  The water even backed up to the Maunawili area.  It was pretty crazy.
