Yeah 3 dead from a knife and I think one was from being hit by a car right?  So four of the six deaths weren't from a gun.  Of course that won't be mentioned in any article.  It was just a tragic event by some maniac.

Can't find much info on the knife attacks...everything is focused on the gun, how he purchased etc..
Saw this video from the father I quoted. makes me angry as I am the law abiding, sane citizen being blamed for this sick person's actions. Those of you that are NRA members should be insulted at the least. I'm tired of people blaming us for this sick society's actions.

Agreed.

It is like someone blaming all news agencies for rumors released by a gossip tabloid.

Or blaming all automobile drivers for fatalities from a drunk driving incident.   :grrr:

I hate to say it, but it's obvious to me the father was already very anti-gun.  It's sad he would choose to use his son's death, and the deaths of others, to promote his political views.  I say political, because he invoked the law makers and NRA in the statement.

I'm sure he's angry about his son's senseless murder, and the one person most to blame isn't here any longer to lash out at.

"I've written out a statement that was prepared by the family."   That implies to me, the anti-gun sentiment probably started as a comment from one person, then others voiced their support of that idea until it became the focus of their grief and anger.  I'm trying to imagine how a statement like this might have been created based on their feelings of shock, frustration, helplessness, and loss.

My heart goes out to him and all the victims, their families and their friends.  However, I think it's in bad taste to allow a press conference for this man's statement so soon after the crime and his son's death.  It smacks of left wing tactics, never letting a good crisis or tragedy, go to waste.

Well we can't have logic, reason or common sense interfering with the agenda. The facts don't really matter, it's about "feelings".

Earlier Saturday, Alan Shifman — a lawyer who represents Peter Rodger, one of the assistant directors on "The Hunger Games" — issued
a statement saying his client believes his son, Elliot Rodger, was the shooter.
It was unclear how the son would have obtained a gun. The family is staunchly against guns, he added.

It appears the family is not, however, staunchly against allowing someone with obvious mental issues to freely move about in society, even after concerns were voiced recently by one of the shooter's therapists.

FROM CNN
Inside Rodger's car Friday night police found three handguns -- all legally purchased -- and more than 400 rounds of unused ammunition.

Rodger passed the background check needed to buy the firearm used in the shooting, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told CNN. The official said nothing had been found in the gun trace to indicate Rodger should have been disqualified.

I do feel sorry for the families of the people killed by the sick bastard and I wish those killers would either suicide themselves first or be caught so we can learn from them before executing them.

However, the dad's logic is faulty as many have pointed out here already.  I just need to vent a little.  Sorry for using the dad's statement as a springboard but it could apply to many anti 2nd statements I've heard.

Using the dad's logic, if that father owns a knife and/or a vehicle, he is equally to blame for the murders that used those weapons.  We are not even talking just this incident, he is at fault for every murder that has ever been committed with those objects...using the dad's logic.  Anyone defending his right to own a knife or vehicle is equally guilty of murder in the dad's view.  Why then is he not calling out to ban those killer items?  The father may try to say that these are every day items, they are practical items, they are a convenience to everyone, etc (referring to the car and knife).  Again using his logic that the object is to blame for the criminal actions they are used for, then no amount of convenience should justify their existence.  If his logic is true, then the argument "but the knife/car/bat is not primarily used to kill" or "has other uses besides killing" is not valid because they can and will be used to kill with no modifications except the will of the user.  The design intent of the object should not play a part in judging its "guilt" in the crime.  Unless the dad is saying that the deaths due to being intentionally run over by a car or stabbed to death are somehow less tragic, less criminal, less worthy of our sympathy and outrage than those killed with a firearm simply because of the different object used to commit the murder?  Since the object is to blame in these violent acts, the evil that an object is capable of doing is all that matters in the dad's view because he is claiming that all the good performed by good people with a firearm is meaningless and pales when compared to the violent acts committed with a firearm thus they need to be banned.

His rage is real, justified and reasonable and I am not saying otherwise.  He should be mad as hell ... at the killer, at the fact that he slipped through the system and was allowed to purchase a firearm (assumption), at the fact that no one even had a chance to defend themselves against this maniac.  He should not be mad at me, my firearms or my 2nd Amendment rights for something that we had nothing to do with.

OK, rant over.     Calm the f*#ck down...

Was he under some kinda Psyc Eval?

News reports he had multiple therapists throughout his life, and as early as a couple weeks ago, one contacted the police with concerns over statements the shooter made on YouTube videos.  He was diagnosed at an early age with moderate Asperger syndrome.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/25/us/santa-barbara-shooting-victims/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Be prepared folks. I have a hunch that this victim's dad will not stop. Notice that there is NO anger towards the psycho kid, but all his anger is directed at us. The media is using this dad's emotional response to polarize the public. Nothing new. But I think that the powers that be have leverage in this case, despite that there were three others who were stabbed to death. The victim's dad's response, in my opinion, is the end result of campaigning by the anti gunners.
The comment touched a nerve among many Americans, and it prompted the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence to say the grieving father "got it exactly right."
"It is time for the American public to know the truth about why people are dying every day and, thanks to Americans like Mr. Martinez, that truth is starting to be heard," Dan Gross said in a statement Sunday.

The NRA needs a campaign to counter this emotional, irrational venting.

And no hate crime ? All three people who were stabbed were Asian. The first three killed Friday -- Cheng Yuan Hong, 20, George Chen, 19, and Weihan Wang, 20 -- were male stabbing victims in Rodger's own apartment, authorities say. Where's the justice? F*cking racist Hunger Games crap going on.

No apology from the suspect's family. No honor.
Does anyone see the parallel in the Hunger Games and what just happened? Kids killing kids?

Today we remember those who we have lost - but we will not lose our rights in light of such tragedy.

Several myths about ‘right-wing lunatic virgin’ Elliot Rodger that the Left wants you to believe:

http://twitchy.com/2014/05/25/three-myths-about-right-wing-lunatic-virgin-elliot-rodger-that-the-left-wants-you-to-believe/

Myth 1: Rodger’s killing spree was motivated exclusively by his desire to harm women.

Rodger was an ultra-misogynist, but he also detested men, including his roommates and even his younger brother.

Related myth 2:  All six of the people killed by Rodger were female.

  • three yet-to-be-named men stabbed to death in Rodger’s apartment,
  • two sorority sisters (Veronika Weiss and Katie Cooper) shot and killed, and
  • one male clerk (Christopher Michael-Martinez) shot and killed at deli.

Myth 3: Rodger used a gun to kill all of his victims.

3 of the 6 killed were stabbed

Myth 4:  Rodger was politically conservative.

Rodger subscribed to The Young Turks, a liberal YouTube channel, and he had no ties to any conservative groups or YT channels.  He was raised by a very Liberal, anti-gun family.

Myth 5:  Rodger was white.

He was mixed race:  half white and half Chinese.
*********
It's amazing how many people tweeted and retweeted the false "facts" that he shot and killed 6 sorority girls.  From what I read today, the sorority on who's lawn he killed 2 girls said all their members are safe.

Low-information citizens should have to attend a year of classes whenever they participate in mass misinformation like this.

Don't waste your time watching this sorry boy's damn sob story! That is exactly what he wanted. No one who hurts others out of anger and hatred deserves that attention or respect.  go spend time with your families and friends...make the world a better place...go befriend someone. I still haven't watched any of his vids...I'd rather spend my precious time writing this comment than watching his damn videos....they prolly got so many views ever since he murdered those innocent people 3 of which were his roommates...and none of those views are from me.
If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

Not trying to drag this out but it's worth mention:

Tonight during Channel 2's world report the Isla Vista shooting was again covered, the father of one of the victims was again interviewed and as expected it was a repeat performance of what we all saw during the press conference.   What I found impressive, certainly against the normal media attitude was Joe Moore's post story comment... "Again two of his victims were stabbed to death, not shot".   Thank you Mr. Moore for pointing out what many will over look.

Makes sense from a psychologist: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/05/27/our-mental-health-care-system-is-joke-even-mass-murderer-elliot-rodger-slipped/

and a similar event that happened involving not guns...http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/05/27/killing-spree-in-college-community-brings-back-memories-similar-crime-12-years-46399277/

Good post of the similar crime comparison.

We SHOULD be focusing on the similarities between these and other rampages.  The method or implement of murder isn't what we need to identify, but rather the motive, the triggers, and the flags that might be able to let us intervene in the future.

When 3 planes drop from the sky, we don't focus on what people were reading or eating during the crash.  Those facts would be what i like to call "irrelevant."
