DIY 223 ammo

I was wondering about the Xtreme 223 components, so when they had a free shipping promo I got some primed brass and 55 gr. bullets.
The brass looks like Federal brand with a gold colored primer installed.
The sampled case lengths measured 1.738 with SD of .001 in. (max is 1.76) That is impressive.
The bullets are conventional 55gr. m193 style and they looked nice. Average wt was 55.4 gr.
I'm going to try my old fav load with RE7 with these to see how they shoot.

Is it cost effective? maybe not.
With 223 ammo so cheap now days, I would only save about $100 per M.
However the real advantage would be if I could use the primed cases with some match grade bullets to produce cheap match grade ammo.
I got some 69 gr. Nosler BTHP match bullets too.
What, Me Worry?

From my exp., Federal cases don't last long. Loose primer pockets, cracked necks after one resize

It seems to me that X-Ring sold something similar at one of the shows a few years back. One of my friends was just getting into reloading and purchased the baggie with 100 primed cases and 100 bullets.

Any one else remember this?

In theory, you could make some "match grade" ammo by sorting everything by weight and neck thickness or whatever. That's what the internet told me, anyway.

if you're looking for brass, there was a local operation that was selling at the gun show.

They were selling brass for $0.08 for the unprocessed and $0.12 for the fully processed.

IMO, that's really cheap since you don't have to pay shipping.

I was going to get some from them but I couldn't make it to the gun show.

My buddy picked up 500 .223 processed from them at the show. Looked pretty nice thru the bag.

I know this is kind of off topic, but what really jumped out at me was their prices for fully processed 308 brass.  Their once fired NATO brass was the cheapest I've ever seen.  Most of the places on the mainland are selling their fully-processed for over 28 cents a piece.

308 brass is very expensive.  I got lucky, someone sold me over 2000 LC once fired for $50.  Did not matter if cheap or expensive, it's hard to come by.
