Crossbow hunting legal on private land?
« on: July 03, 2015, 09:00:03 AM »
One of my friends posted a picture to facebook of a hog he just killed with a crossbow.  I knew you had to have a disability permit to hunt with one so I was like, "you're disabled?"  his reply - it was private land so it's legal.

I went 'hunting' through the HRS and couldn't find anything about rules regarding hunting on private land with a crossbow.

Anyone here know? Have links?  I'd hate him to end up getting busted.

I think I found the answer.  Basically weapons used are up to the landowner.

"Hunting on Private Land: Game mammals may be hunted year-round on private land. Hunters must possess a valid State of Hawai‘i hunting license and have the permission of the landowner. Hunting fees, permitted hunting weapons and methods and other prohibitions and requirements for hunting game mammals on private land are established by the landowner. This is different from game bird hunting, where the State regulates the hunting season and bag limits on both public and private lands. The wearing of blaze orange is not a requirement on private lands unless the landowner deems it to be one."
