Military has taken over turkey.  Although not democratic I do support this current PM Erdogan was a horrible person.
Turkish military claims to have overthrown Erdogan and taken control of country
In a statement, the Turkish military says the rule of law must remain the priority.
"The power in the country has been seized in its entirety," said the military statement read on NTV television, without giving further details. The military's website was not immediately accessible.

It was only a matter of time before this happened. The economy was so far down the tubes people were only allowed to take out the equivalent of $60 per day out of their government run (take over) bank accounts to eat and live on. And that money did not go very far due to the rampant inflation. All because the leadership promised freebies they couldn't afford to pay for after a while. Then when they screwed over the EU (Germany) with the money that was just handed to them they knew what the outcome was going to be. In this case a military coup. I hope those who are on the government teat realizes that the gravy train is over. They are going to have to go back to work and become productive taxpayers again. And if they don't realize it, they will find out soon enough. For all of you who are old enough to understand: I would just send them all to the eastern front.

This is exactly what I was talking about when Edster asked in another thread, what is your tipping point. If you wait as long as Turkey did then the country is going to be in ruins before the people finally rise up and take back our country. But no one seemed to get where I was coming from. We should rise up when they threaten our liberty not after they take it. It is almost too late by then. JMHO

"If successful, the overthrow of Erdogan, who has ruled Turkey since 2003, would be one of the biggest shifts in the Middle East in years, transforming one of the most important U.S. allies in the region while war rages on its borde"

Turkey is a member of NATO, So this effects american policy in the region, America has an airbase they use in turkey, Now there is a military coup America has to pull out as us Law/policy means they cant be involved with a country that is taken over by the military,

"Soldiers took control of TRT state television, which announced a countrywide curfew and martial law. An announcer read a statement on the orders of the military that accused the government of eroding the democratic and secular rule of law. The country would be run by a "peace council" that would ensure the safety of the population, the statement said"

See, this is PRECISELY the kind of stuff that needs to use the BitTorrent distributed method, so that news and videos can get out even if they block the main websites.

This is assuming of course that the Internet itself continues to work in that location, and remains connected to the global Internet.

That's pretty much what I was trying to get at with the pendulum analogy.  I see things in American society as being more reactionary these days.  Again, with exception of most/all on this board here with regards to 2a issues.  Sure, there will be those individuals and smaller groups making their stand when they get to or beyond their tipping point, but I envision things needing to get really bad for enough to reach their tipping point to effect change.

[SIGH]  :(

I know you are right. Most people are going to wait until they come to their door to take their guns before they draw the line. To me that means violence of some sort. If we stand up for ourselves before it gets to that point we can avoid the violence and be proactive and prevent the violent stand offs from occurring.

Plus we won't have to keep an eye out for robots carrying bombs.  :shake: :shake: :shake:

Looks the the coup might fail?  Unfortunate.  Secularism >>>>>>>>>>>> Muslims.  Last thing we need is another Muslim nation.

Again, I hope we never get there, but if we did with respect to 2a, that was just how I envision it.  I am sure there will be those who will be proactive and attempt to prevent things from getting to that point and I will continue to do my part and encourage others to start and continue to do so as well.
