Yes, it is mostly about backstop and neighbors when looking for property.  The smaller the lot the more chances of having neighbors close by, or potentially someone building close in the future.  There are still great places, but something to consider.  Buying vacant land can be a bit different when it comes to purchase.

As for my area, the properties are all larger sized parcels, in the 50 to 100 acre range.

Neighbors dont matter, as long as rounds dont leave your property there is no law prohibiting shooting on your property. (correct me if im wrong)

In theory and in an ideal world, yes.  Through being an RSO and being involved with range design and certification, no.

Neighbors, particularly non-likeminded ones can really jam you up if they have just a little bit of common sense, and sometimes not so much. . . I recall a story of people shooting in private land up on the North Shore.  It was a while ago, but something about the neighbor, who was generally friendly, reported damage on a vehicle from what the neighbor suspected (or stated) was from a stray round.  I don't recall all the details, but I recall that just bringing possible damage into question was enough to put things on hold for a long while.  Eventually, they determined that it wasn't due to the neighbors range and both went about their lives, with the range also making some layout revisions.

Very true.  Especially the neighbors.  A good backstop can be built.  I built my backstop with all the logs and branches from the waiwi and ohia I cut down to make the atv trail to the back of my property.  The lots around me have been vacant since at least 1995.  Hopefully it stays like that for another 22 years.  Also the forest reserve behind me is not one that is open to public hunting.  I was thinking of walking a couple hundred yards back there and maybe set up some targets.  I would love to cut an atv trail, but don't want something visible from the air.

50 to 100 acres!!!  Dayum!

I have design drawings for shoothouses.  Just sayin.   ;D

For that large a property, an ATV sounds like a must.  Horses would be cool as well, though they can require quite a bit of care.  Would also def need some heavy equipment.
