Chaos Erupts At City Hall Hearing For Proposed Gun Bill

Why can't we get "serious" activists here to protest the draconian arbitrary and capricious unconstitutional civil-rights-restricting firearms laws here in Hawaii? I'm tempted to make a "racist" remark and say that apparently only people of a certain race are willing to stand up and risk arrest calling out politicians in a public meeting. Everyone here is so polite as they are trampled by the government (I notice Tulsi emphasizes this in her public "town hall" meetings).

The actual article is useless, as it doesn't define what is "an illegal gun" that warrants the mandatory one year sentence. Maybe they mean "illegal carry"? Baltimore has the highest per capita murder rate of any city in the U.S. and apparently does not issue any licenses/permits that would allow people to lawfully defend themselves with firearms outside their homes. From this article we don't know anything about what the real issue is. All we know is that some people were upset enough to temporarily disrupt the tyrants and their meeting.

[I'm all in favor of imprisoning criminals who jeopardize public safety (they actually harm someone, or threaten to), but not if they are made criminals simply by carrying a firearm if they cannot get a permit/license from the government to lawfully carry one (Just like here). Of course if they are in possession of stolen property that is a crime.]

Chaos Erupts At City Hall Hearing For Proposed Gun Bill

Chaos erupted Tuesday at a Baltimore City Hall hearing for a proposed mandatory one-year sentence for possession of an illegal handgun.

It took just minutes for rising tensions to overflow.

Council members had issued several warnings to unruly attendees, but police were called to move in as activists clashed with council members, and people pushed back.

[I am unable to copy and paste a direct link for the video, so you'll have to go to the website to see it... it's autoplay.]

I don't know. We had a good showing at the Will Espero meeting.

I think we need to find enough people willing to flood a public hearing on  bill. I would go if we got one organized.

What/Who are we going to "flood" in order to actually get a committee to hold a hearing that then could be flooded? I called and wrote, and asked here for people to do the same, the committee and chamber party chairs to hold hearings on the CCW bills and the handgun mag limit change bill and none of them did anything at all. We've seen public testimony go against a bill by 105-12 or so and they pass it anyway. I don't have much (any?) expectation that any amount of public input can influence them on the issues of Second Amendment rights not being infringed in Hawaii. I'm open to suggestions. I keep writing and calling anyway, not because I expect they will "change" and respect my rights and act accordingly, but merely because I'm obstinate and ornery that way (you know, about traitors violating their sworn oath of office).  :shaka:

Generally, bills are usually easy to pass if there is no funding needed such as forbidding hicap mags. Unfortunately, they'll pass no matter how much opposition there is. Bills that require funding such as the firearm insurance shit are harder to pass and easier to fight.

When I lived in Kaneohe I had Ken Ito who was already fairly pro gun but I have to research who I have now and see where they stand. Maybe a few phone calls are in line. Now I feel guilty for not doing more.

I don't know what options we have if they won't even hold public hearings on the bills. Pay for attack ads? Ask the news to cover how the committee refused a hearing?

If there was a particular individual we could flood their office in person or with calls I suppose. What can we legally do that they cannot ignore?

Well, I repeatedly called and emailed the committee chairs and the party heads of the House and Senate and asked them to bring the bills ("shall issue" CCW and handgun mag limit increase) before the committees... and posted those names and numbers here and asked people to contact them. I don't know how many, if any, did... but however many did, it didn't make any difference. If I had to make a wild guess, and it's pure wild speculation, I'd guess fewer than a dozen people called even once to each chairperson. Or am I just a "negative pessimist"? Since the people answering the phones at those offices didn't know the content of the bills by me stating the bill numbers, I had to conclude that they definitely weren't getting "flooded" with calls about them.

I think people could make a quasi-legitimate argument (and people from other states do) that we get the laws we "deserve" (because so few people are willing to take the time to attempt to do anything at all about them).

As for "What can we legally do that they cannot ignore?": Donate $100,000 (or more) to their primary/general election opponent would be effective. I'm also pretty sure that there are not even any "illegal" tactics that would have any effect on the general overall scheme of Hawaii's unconstitutional anti-Second Amendment rights laws either. But let's not get into debating or even discussing that.  :shake:
