It helps if you have the bolt disassembly tool.  There are videos online that show how you use it.

1. Get a bolt disassembly tool.
2. Get a bolt disassembly tool.
3. Get a bolt disassembly tool.
4. Consult the internet for directions on how to disassemble and reassemble your bolt using the bolt disassembly tool.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I do it similar to how I might do an AR bolts ejector when I don't use a dedicated disassembly tool.

The ejector spring and plunger exerts force on the extractors shaft that is locking the ejector plunger in place.  Some people just use a punch and hammer out the ejector, but a newer ejector can be a bit tough and it really isn't a good way to do it.  You could cause undue wear or damage.  Therefore I use a shell casing on the bolt face, locked in place by hand.  This relieves pressure on the ejector spring and ejector plunger that is being held in place by the shaft end of the extractor.  Once pressure is relieved on the extractor by compressing the ejector spring, I use a punch and push out or lightly tap out the extractor with a punch.  You can then back out the punch and relieve tension on the shell casing.  Just beware that the ejector is spring loaded and can fly out if you don't try to retain it.

Kind of like an AR bolt, in that it really isn't that complicated once you get the trick of it.  A tool makes it easier if you do a lot of them on a regular basis, but entirely not necessary.

first time for anything is a pain and kinda scary, but it is a good way to learn.  If you dont want to buy the tool, perhaps see if someone will loan you one?

Some folks don't like to lend out their bolt tool (especially if it's an orginal USGI tool) since the 'fingers' on the reassembly part of the tool can be easily broken off.  That being said, I'll be at the range this Sunday, so if you want to bring your bolt and cleaning stuff I can disassemble the bolt for you and put it back together after you clean it.  Send me a PM if interested.

It can be done without. I have done it but the tool makes it much easier!

oh, didn't realize it might be an original usgi tool.  Could always use something of equal value as a form of collateral.   :D

That's nice of you to offer.  I can offer the same with my set of m1 garand wrenches.  One wrench locks the barrel and gas cylinder in place so you don't torque the tubes, the other to remove the plug.
