Wow that was depressing. Yeah sometimes it feels like it's going nowhere but then with the trigger mod bill they seemed to listen and actually attempted to change the language a bit. You could look at it from a couple different angles, but I prefer to see it as they have a mandate to do whatever the Democratic National Committee says or face having their careers destroyed. We can't change their minds as to the Yes or No but we do have an effect on the content of what is passed.

Eventually as the DNC continues to fall in popularity (which started when it abandoned working people long ago) then this line of communication could become increasingly useful. It seems like a frustrating waste of time now but we are actually building the bridges of tomorrow, and are already way ahead of the rest of the population as far as political awareness.

Something else I'm going to start doing is including the bill number and a short description inside my testimony and stating clearly that I support or oppose right up front. Had a testimony go down the wrong pipe today which forced me to call the Public Access Room and then a couple committee chairs to get it straightened out. I think it was the result of having too many windows open at the same time and some wires got crossed when I logged back in.

They apparently didn't have too much trouble tracking it down using my email address, but a clear-as-day title showing that it's in the wrong place might really be helpful in case it happens again.

posted above, "Be courteous, no one's going to read scathing remarks."

it's really difficult to not be "scathing" when they treat us with indifference that borders on blatant in-your-face extreme rudeness.  For our elected legislators to totally ignore the voting public seems to be par for the course here in Hawaii?  They're thinking, "well, these are not MY people".  I guess they presume we're too busy reading the surf reports, or doing our recyclables, balancing the checkbook, or some other brainless minion task.

I'm sorry, but I do lose my cool when submitting testimony, but try to wrap it up before I get too hot under the collar for our "representatives".  I mean, I really wish I could lay hellfire and brimstone on them, and strike the fear of god in them, but hey, that's not going to work.  Tune to a different radio channel, yup, they're thinking bout the color of the new carpet in their office.  and besides, aren't we transitioning to a god-less state anyways?

But regardless, I do diligently post testimony for every hearing, revison, SB, HB, sofar.  one of the 300 OPPOSE, I guess.  Hey, Spartacus?

alright, nuff already.

I have a suspicion that we are being trained to be discourteous in order to limit our political effectiveness. The media presents ideas like Muslim or the NRA are pure evil and then sits back and lets us duke it out over the details. Meanwhile they get away with whatever they want.

If all sides could meet and find some common ground about legislative reform, enough to force a constitutional convention, it would be their worst nightmare.

Right now it's a dream job, carpet thoughts and all.

This is my testimony for the CCW reciprocity opposition resolutions.  It is very important to keep it personal, use past and current experiences, and to include your contact info and address.  Take a different approach from everyone else.  In the first line post your position and summary why.  I've heard the same recommendations by legislators, lobbyists, and even the opposition.  That is what it takes to write effective testimony.  I'm constantly trying to improve my writing each time.

I am OPPOSED to SCR9 because Concealed Carry Weapons is a right everyone should have.

I am a firearms instructor and retired military servicemember with concealed carry weapons permits from Nevada and Arizona. I was able to carry a weapon for self defense while deployed overseas and can currently carry a weapon in many other States on the mainland with my CCW permits which currently have State to State reciprocity over most of the US. I was fortunate that I have never been attacked while overseas or on the mainland. However I was attacked twice here at home in Hawaii. In Kalihi I was carjacked on the road after school one night. In Aiea I was robbed when a gang threatened me with a weapon, assaulted me, and attempted to get my wallet. Fortunately I was able to escape in both situations. I have friends and family who are also afraid of walking alone at night on their way home after work.  I support the carrying of concealed handguns for self-defense and any law abiding person should be able to choose wether to do it or not.

HAWAII DOES NOT ISSUE CCW PERMITS TO THE PUBLIC

The second paragraph in the bill "WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii has allowed the concealed carry of firearm..." is a lie. Hawaii has not issued any Concealed Carry Weapons permits for decades except for a couple that were erroneously issued. Please check with the local police departments and AG so that you can see the statistics for yourself. Or apply for a permit for yourself and see what the process is like. This is a violation of my civil rights. The reasons listed on the bill for denial of permits such as prior criminal history, domestic abuse, physical standards, determination of recklessness, etc are not the reasons used for denial. The HRA conducted a CCW drive where law abiding people applied for permits and none were granted.

THE POLICE WILL NOT ISSUE ANY CCW PERMITS TO THE PUBLIC FOR ANY REASON.

Please make a phone call to each of the police chiefs to ask why they will not issue any permits.

I am OPPOSED to SCR9. Please contact me if you have any questions.
