UNCC college classroom shootings: legally acquired handgun, therefore ban them? (Read 1747 times)

I can't find a story that names the make and model of the legally acquired (i.e. passed a background check, etc.) handgun (likely a semi-auto) used by this murderer at the UNCC campus killings. This must mean, mustn't it, to be logically consistent, that the "commonsense gun safety regulation" crowd will have to demand the banning of all semi-automatic handguns as "weapons of war" and "no one needs a semi-automatic handgun for hunting", etc.?

In all their blather about banning "assault weapons" in response to school shootings in particular, typically meaning AR type platform long guns, the banners consistently fail to mention the worst (in terms of total fatalities) school shooting murders ever, Virginia Tech, where the murderer used two legally acquired (passed a background check, etc.) semi-auto handguns, including one a .22LR caliber. To remain logically consistent (never really even on the radar for the banners as a consideration of policy advocacy) wouldn't they have to include ALL semi-automatic handguns in their ban requirements, even .22s? I'm just askin', because otherwise it seems like they are hypocrites, liars, and, worst of all, logically inconsistent.

Also, please see this interview with a professor who has run computer simulations based upon real life events regarding the intuitively idiotic "Run, Hide, Fight" recommended strategy for "active shooter scenarios". He mentions that "Fight" should be second, if not first... for example, at Columbine the students were "hiding" under tables in the library for NINE MINUTES after they heard gunfire, at which point the murderers strolled in and shot them where they laid "hiding". At UNCC a student immediately charged the murderrer and was killed, but apparently disrupted him enough that he wasn't able to kill or wound as many as otherwise could have happened.

Right on cue... or coincidence... or whatever.... just checked Joe Huffman's blog for "Qoute of the Day" today...

Quote of the day—David Southern

I can think of no reason for a resident of this country to own a handgun or an assault rifle, as these firearms are only used to shoot at other humans. Therefore, the tougher the laws for these types of weapons, the safer we all are.

LETTER: Tough gun control laws create a safer society [https://www.oakbaynews.com/opinion/letter-tough-gun-control-laws-create-a-safer-society/]

[Even if we were to accept Southern’s faulty claim that the named firearm types are only used to shoot at humans he has remarkably deficient thinking abilities. He apparently cannot envision that some humans need to be shot and need to be shot in a hurry. This is convincing proof he has crap for brains.—Joe]

If the make/model is not in the news, then it's usually a gun that doesn't fit their agenda (assault rifle).  And no mention of a "gun free zone" so refer to the agenda again and how these zones don't work.

In this case they have to inadvertently and indirectly reference the "gun free zone" because the formal charges include "possessing a firearm on educational property and discharging a firearm on educational property."

I believe that in this century ALL but one (Las Vegas concert) "mass public shooting" has occurred in a "gun free zone". I'm sure they just need to tighten that up a bit to make it work. As pointed out by the meme above, it'll then work just like the "drug free zones" we have now.

Vegas was a gun free zone (Mirage Hotel), but not subject to the weight of the law.  And so was the concert, but no gun was actually at the concert, just bullets.  So maybe a bullet free zone next?
