For you chicken and fowl lovers out there...
Got 2 Barred Rocks, Raven and Karen and 2 brown/reds Patches and Precious.
Two weeks ago, (Patches) started getting "Mud Butt.
Though Cecal poop is pretty normal, hers was excessive.
Raven has been brooding for the second time in 45 days and seeing how they all insist on laying in the same nesting box, that's where Patches was laying.
Either she was semi egg bound or Raven crowded Patches when she was laying and Patches' egg broke and must have cut her interior. She prolapsed so we corrected but she was hurt.
After two days in the house separated from the others primarily in the dark she was not getting any better. Lethargic, wet white stool, unbalanced, not eating, or drinking much etc... but pissing like a racehorse.
Thought about Coccidiosis as she was still bleeding so went to pick up some Corid and spoke to Ikaika, the chicken whisperer at Kaneohe Feed and he said it wasn't Coccidiosis but maybe worms or some other infection.
Said he's tried many pharmaceutical antibiotics but nothing worked so he went old school.
Garlic. Told me to shove a clove down her throat every day. (I only used half a clove as I did not want to "choke my chicken"

) so Patches got garlic.
Next day Precious was getting white stool but still full of piss and vinegar but Karen was now lethargic, wet white stool, unbalanced, not eating, or drinking hiding in the dark so I started shoving garlic down all of them.
After three days of garlic Patches was drinking a lot but only eating a little canned corn, papaya and a bite or two of leftover chicken and still pissing like a race horse constantly.
3rd day (4th for Patches) everyone also got 1 drop of oil of oregano mixed with coconut oil in a capsule force fed. Also putting in Apple Cider vinegar in their water.
5th day of garlic Patches was back outside (much to her dismay) cruising and foraging with Precious and Karen was brought in.
Haven't seen any symptoms on Raven but she was probably the smart one secluding herself from the others while brooding.
Many of these symptoms are caused by stress (interior injury, prolapse, brooding, missing companion, seeing another ill) but are also symptoms of worms, uterus infection, Vent gleet and more.
I did some research and there is a lot about putting a
LITTLE garlic in their food and/or water but never found anything about shoving a whole clove down their throats.
Seems garlic has been used to treat fowl for centuries
Bottom line, garlic worked, at least for Patches.
Will let you know what happens to Karen.
