Ultimate handgun

A friend and I were talking about what we like about this and that handgun, and how we wish we had different features to make a handgun more "likable" to us..........

So: You're working for a firearms manufacturer, and you're making the next greatest gun.  What would you like about the gun?  What do you want about the gun?  What features will it have that make it better, to you, over other guns?

I meant, what will your gun have that you like better than other guns?  For us, some of the things included low bore axis, ability to change from .40 to 9mm with just a barrel swap (magazines work for both -- 9mm ammo count holes on one side on the back of the magazine, and .40 down the other side), having a bigger grip angle than the Glock, none of the finger nubs on the Glock, but having some that could be glued into the frontstrap checkering, etc...

Jl808, you crack me up.  ;D  I, myself, was thinking more along the lines of Hellboy's gun.

Or maybe a Type II hand phaser.  Or the standard-issue Sandman sidearm.  Or the Lawgiver.

I want something that's about the size of a Walther TPH, weighs no more than 6oz., has a capacity of at least 100 shots before reloading, shoots flat out to 1000yds., and hits like the hammer of Thor.

Until something like that (or a phaser) is available, I'll stick with an H&K P7.

Well, if you want a more legitimate response, I've never understood why the 1911 style trigger isn't used on more handguns.  If I were designing a new semi-auto handgun, it would have a 1911 trigger, and the barrel would be closer to the hand, with all the parts that traditionally move it up (recoil spring, op rod, whatnot) either beside or above the barrel to reduce muzzle rise.  It would be truly modular, none of this add-a-shim-of-plastic-to-the-grip crap, but have genuinely interchangeable major components.  The one receiver would be able to support dozens of different calibers, barrels, grips and accessories, all drop-in and not needing a gunsmith  It would eject straight down.  It would be engineered to operate under adverse conditions, not requiring cleanliness or proper lubrication.  And it would be made, as far as possible, from carbon nanotubes.

I also suggested a 1911 kind of trigger, but since I'm not a fan of manual safeties, I dunno.. Maybe a straight-pull instead of a lever?

Another thing that would help out goofs like myself would be a captured spring/guide rod..

Yes for the love of god I don't want to chase my Walther p22 spring out into the brush at kokohead.  I already lost one when breaking the gun apart after it jammed lol.

I was at the pistol range with this guy to check out his new Springfield XDM .45, and JUST AFTER the line went hot, he showed me how his XDM gets taken down.  On reassembly, his guide rod gets launched halfway to the 25 yard line.  We both look at the rod that's so close yet so far away and he goes, "Well, I guess we're not shooting this gun yet.."

See elsewhere in this forum for the story about how I took out a ceiling light with the recoil spring from my 1911.
