Handgun for sale

Alright fellas, HYPOTHETICALLY...

Let's say I talked to this guy here through messenger selling a Glock 17 gen5 via FB marketplace (somehow it wasn't taken down earlier than it was)

Anyway, he says it's been unshot and has extra parts except for the sights from what the pictures show. His post said $800 but then after talking to him he brought it down to $650 then $500 cash. He doesn't seem to understand that to buy it legally I'll need another permit so he's adamant about selling it to me. Either that or he wants to just sell me the slide and barrel right now. Don't wanna straight up ask if it's stolen but I don't wanna even risk myself legal trouble over a pistol

Guy is super confusing and sketchy, I know. Is it worth it or does it sound like a trap or just a bad idea? Brought up to him possibly buying the slide and barrel and then buying the frame itself with a permit in hand to mitigate legal risk

Any chance HPD would run the SN# for me if I called so I can make sure it's legit?

UPDATE: Okay you guys can forget about this post. Turns out this dude is only selling a slide and barrel and extra parts for $500 and doesn't even have a lower because he owns a G43 and bought a G17gen5 upper -_-

Careful, I have been PM'd deals way too good to be true via these forums. When you reply is gets sketchier than PayPal-ing people for a shotgun. There is a Nigerian Price somewhere with some really nice guns, you just need give him half up front.

I met a guy who said he was moving to the Philippines and needed to get rid of a Beretta 92.
It was really tempting, but I would rather not end up on the 6 o'clock news.

Back in the day, in Seattle.
Thanks to my Heroin addict cousin,
I could easily buy an Uzi out of the trunk of a car.

Most people caught with guns they bought on the street say they would only buy from someone they knew personally or for whom someone they trusted vouched.

If you're buying on the Interwebs. make sure you're dealing with an FFL or a site like Gun Broker.  Private sales over the Internet?  Nah.  Even the sales that go on with 2AHawaii members arealmost all in-state private sales transacted in-person.

It could be. But if your doing it legit... Asking for serial number and all the guys info... Then its not really a sting op that will hold up in court. Cause in your eyes its a legit transferring of weapon.

Now....

If the seller says something along the lines.. "Ahhhh no need register it..." Or " eh just gimme the cash now and take the gun.. " etc. Then just call 911 and report it after you walk away..

P.s. id stay away from FB or Craigslist when it comes to guns .. Just my 2 cents.  :stopjack:

In my case the seller was leaving inside of 2 weeks...or so he claimed.
Not a Beretta fan anyway.

Situation like this, I would be worried more about what would show up in a ballistic test. Seen too many CSI shows to realize that getting pinned for murder one is a bigger fear than buying a gun with a suspicious S/N. Good thing you avoided the deal.

Quote

Glad things seemed to work itself out for the OP.  But I did encounter trying to run a SN#.  That was when I was trying to track down info on my dad's firearms when he passed.  Both to make sure what I was aware of was all of them, as well as for some firearms that ended up slipping through the cracks when HPD transferred from the paper to digital filing system.  Anyways, they printed out a list of all of the firearms that were registered under my dad's name (after proper ID vetting and stuff).  I noticed one of the guns wasn't listed, so I asked them to check the SN# and they said that they couldn't disclose that info, which I understood.  Anyways, that firearm in question ended up where the paperwork wasn't transferred into the digital system, but they were able to find the record.

Maybe another officer would be willing to run the SN#, but they didn't in the instance where I tried.  Again, which I understand why they wouldn't want to disclose info like that.

Thanks all. Obviously I ended up not buying (no Glock slide is worth $800!) and glad it turned out to just be a slide, not the weapon itself. Looking into another Glock because the Glock bug but me HARD. Thanks everyone for your valued opinions/ tips/ advice!
