The Mauritanian movie review

Rented this through Netflix last week after hearing Jordan Peterson do an interview with the man the movie was about. The Peterson interview goes into a lot more detail while the movie picks up part way into the story.

The acting is fine but the production was just ok. But the content of the story is what makes it one worth watching. It raises some serious questions about rights of the accused, the desire to prosecute someone, the rule of law, and what the government will do.

Brief Synopsis:
A man from Mauritania was picked up for investigation with ties to Bin Laden. He is interrogated by other countries (movie picks up after this part) and then handed over to America and he is taken to Guantanamo. There are some bits of evidence linking him to Bin Laden and the Taliban but not a strong case. He is interrogated for years and then put through the "enhanced interrogation" all without being charged. The US government believes he is the mastermind for  9/11 and is pushing for the death penalty. A non-profit lawyer takes up his case, faces difficulties in getting any evidence against their client, and uncovers startling allegations.

It takes a LOT to startle me nowadays when it comes to our government.  Just sayin'.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I guess, I'll admit I didn't put a lot of thought into the words for that, just sort of a phrase I often hear.

It is more saddening than startling. I don't know if the guy got any money from all of this but he lost 20 years of his life. You would hope for more objectivity in a prosecution

The war on terror set the stage for what is happening now to January 6 political prisoners, many who are been detained and tortured for months on trespassing charges.

These are gulags on American soil run by communist revolutionaries who continue to steal elections with the intent of hijacking the nation.

They will win if we don't stand up against them.

Are you making a joke? I don't recall the passports being relevant to anything this guy was accused of

I like to cook certain things in tin foil on the grill.  I don't think the passports were wrapped in foil though.  ;)

As 2ahi Tin Foil President, do not reuse said tin foil and make into a hat.  You're head will smell like what ever you grilled.
