Need License fo Braid Hair?

Didn't know you needed a license to braid hair in Hawaii and 4 other states. 3 women with combined 60 years of experience suing state of Idaho because the state wants them to get a cosmetology license which can cost $20k with the schooling required. The kick in da ass is these schools don't teach how to braid black hair, which is what these women do.Another ridiculous regulation

States require licenses for certain professions under the guise of "public health and safety."  In reality, the state makes so much money on these requirements, they make examples of people whenever they can.

Just saw a video where a Sheriff's Office in a state trying to pass permitless concealed carry OPPOSED the law ..... UNTIL the law was amended promising the Sheriff's Department an additional funding each year to offset the loss of revenue the new law would cause.  The department makes about $600K in a busy year off of CCW permit applications and renewals.

So, the LE opposition to CCW isn't always about public safety.  It's about their budget.

About 20 years ago they tried to get rid of the requirement to be a  barber. My haircut lady and all the other barbers at her place were against it. THey felt that some skill should be practiced in barber school.  Plus it gave free haircuts to those who couldn't afford it. IIRC it was in Liliha.

I've been cutting my hair for about 2 years now due to covid and it still comes out jacked up compared to my haircut lady. I do get compliments on my doo, but I can still see the errors that I make.

The libertarian side of me thinks that there should be no permit required because if someone gives jacked up haircuts, their business will suffer. So the problem solves itself. Experience is the best teacher for this IMO. I had a friend pass barber school and work at a high end salon. But he needed more XP for dudes hair. So he asked me to come by and free haircut. It took him 1 hr to cut my hair. My haircut lady takes about 25mins. And I DIY about 10 mins.  My hair was jacked up when he was done.

I went to SuperCuts at the Mililani Town Center more than a few years ago.  The woman who cut my hair made a huge mess of it.  The amount of hair left on each side was totally uneven, and the person who tried to even it up had to remove much more on the longer side, making the overall cut way shorter than what I'd asked for.

The look on that second person's face when I asked for my refund was telling -- like I'd just asked for a million bucks or the keys to her new car!  They even have a huge sign that says if you are not satisfied with your haircut for any reason, we'll give you a full refund.  I looked straight into her eyes and said, "Do you really think THIS is the haircut I wanted when I came in today?"  The light came on, and she gave me my money back.

I've never been back to that SuperCuts location since.

Point of the story:  having a license and formal training doesn't make anyone a barber or beautician.
