Cheney had name recognition: she's the daughter of George W.'s VP Dick Cheney. Unfortunately, she let the Dems use her for their political witch hunts, so now she's out of a job.
Cheney is now making comments that lead the MSM to conclude she's "thinking about" running for President. I think that was her end-game all along. If she could run as a Republican but have Democrat support, she thinks that's a winning ticket for her.
BTW, the race (if you can call it that) was called with only 4% of precincts reporting.
