Shipping ammo and powder outer island
« on: February 20, 2024, 04:32:24 PM »
So I’ll be moving to Kauai soon and was wondering if anyone has any info on if it’s possible to ship my bulk ammo and powder to the beautiful garden isle. I have inquired with YB so just waiting on a response from them but wondering if anyone has experience doing this. Mahalo in advance.

Its been a couple years since we sent a pallet to a neighbor island, but we used YB to ship to Kauai, Maui, and Big Island.  They're "ok"... sometimes hit/miss on customer service.  Price wise it was actually reasonable to ship (a couple years ago it was like $60-90 for a pallet worth).  The drop off process in Honolulu was easy, except for the limited hours.  Loaded ammunition and primers are the haz class so most carriers allow them to ship together on the same pallet.  Powder is a different class though and has to ship on a separate pallet.

Awesome thank you

My one recommendation is to make sure the ammo is in watertight containers if using the barges. When I last talked to YB about their less than container operations, I found out that they sort and load in the open.

It’s so crazy, not a single freight forwarder wants to help with this shipment. I think I’m just going to try and fill out the paperwork through YB. Seems the SDS for the reloading supplies is pretty straight forward and grainger carries the hazmat stickers. Anyone ever fill out the YB hazmat form?

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Will def ship in airtight. I’m assuming though it should probably be in a softish plastic type container vs something like an ammo can where if something were to happen and powder or primers ignited the seal would create a bomb. Plastic container would probably break before too much pressure gets built up.
