Anyone Want to Race to NRA Distinguished Expert - Pistol?

In an effort to refine my technique, I've decided to start working my way through the NRA Pistol and Bullseye ratings. My eventual goal is to make Distinguished Expert in both disciplines. Once I'm done building my rifle I'm going to start working on the High-Power stuff as well.

Anywho, since I'm starting from the bottom, I was wondering if anyone else who is also unranked would be interested in racing me to the top of both regular Pistol and Bullseye. If so, we can work out the details and "rules" once we have a few people interested. I intend to start this weekend, so hopefully a few people are interested in getting started as well.

I'm in for this. It'll be a great way to hone my marksmanship as well. Not to mention a little friendly competition is always cool

Man that stuff is complicated.  So the scores have to be achieved during official competitions?  Are there many of those?  I have only seen one or two take place at the bullseye range.  Besides which, aren't some of the qualifications for the 25ft range?

Would be fun, just not understanding how it can be done.

No, all of the qualifications can be attained during non-competition shooting. In fact, the only qualification that even requires a witness is the Distinguished Expert rating.

Regarding the distances, unfortunately all of the standard Pistol qualifications are done at either 15 or 30 feet. I guess the best place to do this is at Magnum...I know there's a fee and you have to use their ammo, but that's OK; I'll just give up Starbucks for the week(s) that I decide to shoot there. :) Honestly, the first few qualifications seem easy enough to be done on the same day.

For the Bullseye stuff, we can use the B-8 (slow fire) and B-16 (timed and rapid fire) targets at 25 yards, so all of that stuff can be done at Koko Head.

I know that the B-8 and B-16 targets can be bought locally, I haven't looked for the AP-1 or AP-2 yet...it's actually on my list of things to do tomorrow.

I'm in if this can be shot with a G34 with a .156 rear sight notch.

I wish these guys would give a better discount on using the range!

Yup, all semi-automatic pistols and revolvers "compete" together.

You could also do this at the HRA fun shoots.  Just let the range master know what you're doing and set up your target frames to one side of the main line.  No reason you couldn't co-exist with the activities of the day.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

This weekend I went out and shot the "targets" (read: paper plates) for the first 2 levels of Pistol. So those are all done...just have to figure out who to send them to and what-not. My AP-1 targets are on the way so I'll be able to keep working my way up the Pistol ladder; I have yet to start the Bullseye side of this.

Anyone else get any shooting done this weekend?
