Do you watch Red Dawn while caressing your AK?

Come to think of that, I just might do that tomorrow night after class......

AR for me.

AR's are accurate, infinitely customizable, Ergonomic, and well made. Any talk of reliability issues are ignorant, I used to shoot 600 to 900 rounds in a single sitting back when ammo was cheap without a single problem. The AR's of today aren't first generation Vietnam issue, They have come a long way.

I had a romanian ak. it was accurate for an ak, but it felt junkie and smelled funny when i shot it. and the bolt looked like it was made by a guy in Pakistan with a file, the springs looks like they were made from lockwire, the safety is stupid, and the trigger was wretched. But that's just like my opinion, man.

I respect the ak for what it is, but it's not for me.

I hate to split hairs, but why not both?  the more the merrier.

I love to split hair.  The more the merrier.  :D

AR for me since I have the most time with them.  I have 4 complete ARs and a few awaiting parts, upper, etc.  I recently got an Arsenal AK just before the recent election and while I like shooting it, I am still more comfortable with the AR and more accurate anywhere from 50 - 300 yards.  I have only shot the AK with the stock iron sights, so maybe not a good comparison.

Advantages of ARs to me have already been mentioned.  Smaller, more easily carried and lighter magazines, mag changes are quicker/easier with the AR (no camming needed like with the AK mag), better accuracy potential.  I also believe the differences in reliability between the AR and AK are exaggerated as you can keep the AR running well with a minimal amount of maintenance and some lube.

Regardless, I did want an AK for inceased diversity in my firearms and the availability (relatively) inexpensive AK ammo.

I like both AK's and AR's.

I love that you can shoot hundreds or even thousands of rounds from an AK without cleaning it. It is very reliable.

I love the fact that you can shoot sub moa with an AR.

They're both excellent rifles which is why the AK is still used in many countries and has been used since the 40's.

Also the reason why the "AR" (M16/M4) is the longest serving combat rifle in U.S. history.
+1 and that's why everyone should own at least one of each. They are both excellent weapons with competing strengths and weaknesses. Didn't see this posted on the comparison thread but great comparison video with combat considerations.

Summary:
M16: complex high-tech precision lightweight weapon, expensive, better range and accuracy
AK-47: rudimentary low-tech weapon, low cost, better reliability and greater penetration, simplistic design

Both have strengths and weaknesses and it just depends on what the intended purpose is and the environment to be operated in. Like the guy in the video says, "contrary to the wisdom that high-technology rules, regardless, the performance of the weapon will always depend on the war being fought and on the skills of those who are fighting it."
