Guided Hunts: Now Available
« on: January 24, 2011, 09:47:03 PM »
I've had a lot of people asking me lately so I talked this over with my hunting partner and the two of us will be offering guided hunts on the island of Oahu. The hunts will be conducted on private land, with transportation to the hunting grounds provided.

Both of us are licensed hunters with experience and we will be offering hunts using dogs, rifles, or both. We can conduct hunts using bait and wait with treestands or blinds, trail blocking, or stalking. Hunts will start from sunrise and last until a catch is made or until sunset.

Price is $50.00 per person for the day with an additional $50.00 cleaning fee. You may keep what you catch or donate the meat, but we cannot guarantee that every hunt will be successful.

If you would like to book a hunt, or need further information, please call Joseph at 808-780-6499. Mahalo!

Hey tonsofguns,

I may have to look you up when I get back from deployment!  I still need to attend the hunter’s ed course which I am scheduled for a class in April and still need to pick out a good rifle for hunting.  Thanks

Well apparently the guy who was supposed to be doing this hasn't been so I need to apologize to everyone. I actually just got back to Oahu, so I'll try to get this thing rolling myself. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hey TonsofGuns, did you get the guided hunts up and going? I will be in Oahu Dec 13-14 (Next Week). Curious to see what it would take to Pig hunt one of those days?
Currently:
Age 45(1967) - Hunters Ed not required in Texas if born before 1971
Current Texas hunting License - Requirements for Hawaii?
Are there firearms that can be used locally or would I need to travel with my Rifle or Bow?

I am an experienced hunter but only one day available and needing a guide.
Staying a hotel near Waikiki.

oo sounds cool.  I may have to hit you guys up on this one day.  I've never been hunting before in my life and having a guided one would be kinda cool and educational.  Price sounds reasonable too.  :shaka:

Hi tonsofguns. What caliber do you recommend for these hunts?
I think, therefore I am armed.

I've killed with 223, 12g, 45-70, 30-30, 30 carbine, even 22lr, from inside 100 yards, so really anything you can shoot effectively will work. Obviously if your taking long range shots, which I usually don't because of where I hunt, you'll need something like a 308, 30-06, 270, or what not.

I like my M1 carbine and my lever actions because where I hunt is in brush, sometimes heavy brush, and usually involves a lot of climbing and crawling. A light, compact, medium caliber rifle is in my experience the best tool for the job.

Also, I've received some calls lately about the guided hunts. I made a posting earlier, though I now feed I should address this situation in a little more detail.

These were being held on private land which I had permission from the landowner to shoot and run the dogs, as well as set up feeders. I made several ads, one of which was on this site.

Soon after I posted here, the guy got into it with one of the neighbors over something trivial and a theft occurred on the  property as well.

Not too long after that, the police showed up to a report of several "heavily armed men" in the bushes near the property line. You can have 1 guess on who those guys were. My cousin and I and some others.

Long story short, things are starting to settle down over there and the guy is starting to warm up to the idea of allowing the hunts again.

I will post again if we can make it happen. Mahalo.

Tonsofguns are you a registered Hunting Guide.  I know this board is very above board so may want to look at DLNR's site http://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw/hunting/how-to-become-a-registered-hunting-guide-in-hawaii

[§183D-25.5] Hunting guides; licensing and reporting requirements. [Section effective January 1, 1997.1 (a) No person shall engage in the business of soliciting and guiding clients for the purpose of taking any game bird or mammal without first procuring a hunting guide license.

(b) A hunting guide license shall be issued to any person who possesses a valid state hunting license and registers with the Department of Land and Natural Resources; provided that hunting guides shall provide service only to clients with a current State hunting license, unless the client is otherwise exempted by the department.

(c) Hunting guides shall provide an annual report to the department of their guide activities that shall include the number of clients served and the clients' residency status. The reports shall be submitted within thirty days after the expiration of the hunting guide license issued pursuant to this section. The failure to submit an annual report within the time specified shall be grounds for the revocation and nonrenewal of the hunting guide license. [L 1996, c 50, § 1]
