Yup.

Most of my AK's eject at a 45 degree angle forward. Into the grass where I can't sweep it up.

I do have one AK though that ejects HARD right.

If the brass thief is on your right, I'll let you use my AK to run him off.

if there brass keeps hitting me I'll bust out the the rifle with the comp and punish the shit out of them....

most times the RO's will say something. I saw one guy holding his hand over the ejection port of AR cause the RO said he needed to block the flying brass...

Haha, my Saiga will consistently eject directly at the shooter on the next bench over.

Flying brass doesn't bother me.

Every person that I've ever seen that gets mad over flying brass has ZERO Military combat experience.

I can't imagine someone on a combat deployment getting bothered over flying brass.

Picture this...
An entire squad is engaged in a firefight when one marine stands up and says "come on guys, your brass is hitting me"

(I know, I know, KHSC isn't a war zone, but every time I see someone getting all nuha over brass, this is what I think)

I remember the day some dude tried to take mines . Lol he probably would of got it from me . That's why I shoot 338lm it's hard to say it's your brass when you got a 7.62 sitting on your bench lol

Man, if you're shooting .338, I'd think you'd strangle anyone trying to run off with your brass! I had someone send one of their friends (obvious new shooters) to "collect" my brass while I was on the silhouette side once... I told him he could take the .22lr. The guy swept it up and walked back, his friend looked down into the dust pan and back up to me, caught the hint...

Maybe that oth poster is right: we find out who it is and shoot nothing but Blazer or Tula around him. Extra credit: blackpowder shooters on either side of him so has to deal with that too, no matter which way the wind blows...

i think it is better range etiquette to have a brass catcher than not have one.
it also makes for easier clean up.
and people won't steal your brass.
its an inexpensive tool that makes life a lot more tolerable at the range.

fences make good neighbors
at the range, the catcher serves as a fence.

FYI:

I just bought 2 of these.  Best brass catcher I've seen for the money ($14.95), and it not only fits my ARs, but my 10/22s, and my AK (haven't fire the AK, but the bag covers the port where I need it to).

Any rifle or shotgun with the place for the velcro band to wrap around close enough to the ejection port should work.  The zipper can be used to place the bag in a can or box to funnel the brass into a bigger collection container, or use it to empty the bag without removal from the weapon.

simple answer is to get a SIG 556
ejection is to 1:30
don't have to worry about the vultures or sweeping up since all the brass is in the grass

On the topic of brass catchers, I always bring mine even though I don't reload. It would be really nice if the rifle side would have nets installed like they do on the silhouette side. A cheap improvement that would pay large dividends.

Shooting Times ran an online article on shooter etiquette http://www.shootingtimes.com/2013/03/19/a-gentlemans-guide-to-old-school-gun-range-etiquette/

Public Shooting Ranges are where people should practice that Heinlein proverb, "An armed society is a polite society".

The idea of getting back at people by raining hot brass or blasting them with your muzzlebrake is childish and potentially dangerous. It takes only one lawsuit to shutdown Koko Head to public shooters.

Rather than expect the city to build protective bubbles for each shooter, I recommend that shooters bring brass catchers or some expedient item to deflect the brass.

To be honest, if I dont get hit by flying brass when Im at the range, I feel like something is missing.  Kind of an incomplete day.

You can control the ejection pattern on an AR by trimming the ejector coil spring.

I was reading some of the comments on the "how many rounds do you guys shoot at the range?", and some commented on guys taking brass while they were shooting. I just recently had an incident with someone while I was teaching a class. This guy had some balls! First, he asks me if I reload or not. I tell him "Yes, I save all my brass". Then I catch him "reaching" between mine and my students legs with the broom trying sweep up our brass. When I confront him, he says those were his that missed his brass catcher. I can see if he missed a few, but this guy was trying to pick up nearly all of the brass on the ground. To top it off, my friend was trying to be proactive by having the students sweep up the brass as others were shooting, to limit the other guy's take. When we were having a group discussion about a type of pistol, the guy grab the dustpan (which was right at the bench next to us) and tries to take what was inside of it. When I said "Hey! What are you doing?" he said that as far as he's concerned, any brass on the ground or in the dustpans are free game. WTF!!!

At the pistol side the people who reload that have brass catcher
Dont cry about your brass GET A BRASS CATCHER!!!!  It hit the ground ITS FREE GAME you cant tell whos is whos unless you paint your brass orange
WTF about the  dust pan, swep it up take your brass out then PUT THE DUST PAN BACK ITS NOT YOUR !!!!

Hey pal. WTF! First, we had a brass catcher...2 in fact. Second, these are new student who don't know safety rules, let alone to put the pistol close enough to the catcher to catch the brass. Would you rather me teach them to get close to the net or to keep the muzzle pointed down range? Third, this was happening AFTER I talked to the guy nicely, and he disregarded what was said. This has NOTHING to do with if you leave things in a dustpan or your ideas that if it's on the ground it's fair game. Read the post carefully before you make j-ass comments. So if I see you drop a magazine on the ground during a mag change, it's free game and I can take your mag? Of course not. The point is that people have to be considerate of each other. I'm not saying that if you shoot 100 rounds you should take home 100 cases. I'm saying that if you shoot 100 rounds, and speak to the person next to you, you should go home with at least most of your cases, not none. And  BTW, we were actively sweeping brass. My student stopped sweeping and leaned it up to the bench right next to us because I called them into huddle to discuss the safety features of a particular pistol. We weren't just hogging the dust pan. We were sharing it with all the other shooters around us. Everyone in our area was sweeping up, dumping them into their own bags or boxes, then putting the pan and broom back so the next person could use it. Again, common courtesy of communicating with others and respecting their space and property. Nuff said, not worth it. Sending PM.

I used to pick up and save my brass. Now I pick them up and give it away. But the majority of people I've dealt with at the Ukumehame range are courteous and will ask if I'm saving my brass and will not grab loose brass at will. They see I burn through boxes of ammo and will see piles of shells but most will not pick my brass without asking first. Guys with muzzle brakes next to me I'll just wait until they are done blasting away then I'll go back to my table and shoot. I'm patient and tolerant and will step aside as I understand that people will have them mounted. Muzzle brakes are nasty and I will stay out of the blast area as much as possible. When they are done, I'll continue.

^^True, even experienced shooters would rather focus on getting lead on paper instead of brass in their net. Having a net up/load notebook/bullet boxes all pretty much say to me that the guy is keeping his brass, regardless if it hits the ground or not.

Why do these thieves act so rude?  One rationale might be:  they are trying to not only steal from the shooter, but also from the other brass vultures!

So, I'm starting to envision a cottage industry where you hire young kids as "brass chasers."  It might not save you money, but it would be worth watching the thieves get mad when these little runts are zooming in front of them grabbing the brass the thieves believe belong to them!

Poetic justice!!
