Colorado Recall Attempts successful!
« on: September 10, 2013, 06:31:18 PM »
Fox 31 channel 31 here in Denver is reporting that both recall efforts were successful  Senate President Morse conceded tonight about 9:30 PM MST.

Surprise was that Giron was also recalled by a 60-40 vote.  That's a BIIIIG surprise, considering the demographics of her district.

Both of these Colorado legislators were instrumental in nibbling away at Coloradans' gun rights, mainly by the new magazine capacity limitation and by requiring background checks for private sales of firearms.

Let the word go forth to all those politicians who want  to mess with any of our fundamental civil rights from A1 to A10:  Your political career will be in danger if you do.  We do have the authority to fire your sorry asses.

These wins will significantly color the national gun control debate for quite a while.

What I'd like to see is a grass-roots movement to recall or impeach our Democratic party line worshiper Governor John Hickenlooper.

Strong turnout was expected in a contest that pits the well-financed Democrats against highly motivated gun owners. About $3.5 million has been spent on the two recalls, much of it coming from out-of-state gun-control backers like New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

An analysis published Monday by the Denver Post found that the Democrats have outspent the recallers by a margin of nearly 7 to 1. Both sides have accused the other of relying upon outside special-interest groups and donors.

Good riddance. Voting for measures that do nothing to address the underlying drivers of the crimes is theater at best and counterproductive at worst.

Oh, you'll hear all kinds of garment rending and tooth gnashing about how the election was rigged by the powerful gun lobby.

Funny thing was that in his concession speech, Morse talked about how much he can do now that he is just a "citizen."  Say, Morse.... it was "citizens" who booted you out.

He was right, though, that the Dems have both Legislative houses in Colorado and the Governorship locked up for the next sixteen months, and a lot can still be done.  And that makes me suspect that perhaps a few more recalls might be in the offing, hey?

And now, when you write to your elected officials, it will be nice to point out that clearcut violations of their oaths of office (like infringing on any fundamental civil right, from 1A to 10A) might well lead to facing a grass-roots recall election.  Whether a threatened recall might be successful or not, this gives us some powerful leverage.

Let's not waste it.

To me, one really significant thing about this election is that, according to the Denver Post, the "recall" camp was outspent by a factor of 7-to-1 compared to the "don't recall" faction, and a large chunk ($350,000) of that "seven" was donated by His Honor Mayor Bloomberg of New York City.

Well, it's one in the morning here in the Rockies, and I'm going to go to bed... happy.

Congrats!  Great win for freedom and the rights of the citizen.  More and more it seems these politicians feel like they rule the masses instead of work FOR the masses.  It is great to see that the system IS working, when these politicians think they are ruling us instead of representing us like they are supposed to.

What are the efforts coming to repeal or replace some of the legislation?

In the Legislature, it looks like that's pretty slim, since, as I noted, the Dems hold both houses and Miss Joan Chickenlooper  (John Hickenlooper) is the Dem Governor.  He was sorta-ok to neutral on gun control until O got re-elected, after which he seemed to adhere to the strict Dem party line.  One wonders what kind of arm-bending went on there.  I have strong indications, but without proof, that the party has warned its candidates in the primaries, that they risk loss of $upport if they don't toe the line with manicured toenails.  And of course it's not only monetary support, but strategc and planning support.

The only very slim chance of them passing repeal legislation would come if the Dem majorities and higher-up string-pullers got a rush of brains to their heads and did something positive (from our point of view) in order to bolster their chances of re-election in 2014, 16 months from now.

However, there are several suits to repeal both the magazine limitation law and the universal background check law.  Of the 61 counties which have Sheriffs in Colorado (two don't)  some 55(?) or so of Colorado Sheriffs have joined in a major suit to eliminate the mag limit legislation.  Offhand, right now, I don't recall whether the universal background check law is part of their suit.

Interestingly, in browsing around for results and commentary on this recall election, I found quite a number of comments deploring how the influx of Californians and New Yorkers. etc., have been, so to speak, "trashing" so many of the values and traditions we've kept alive in this State.  The main accusation is that they seem to come here to get away from their own oppressive and "statist" States, then turn around and try to make Colorado just like the places from which they came.  :wtf:

Sort of like city dwellers who move out into the country to "get away from it all," then all of a sudden want traffic lights on every intersection and the like.

This recall is very, very good news.  It will make purple state politicians think twice about infringing on 2nd amendment rights.   Might even give Jerry Brown some pause in California before signing some of the gun control bills that have been sent to his desk.  If the recall had come a month earlier, some of those bills might not have even made it to his desk.

As for Hawaii, it might give legislatures a bit of pause in adding new restrictions to our already restrictive gun laws.    We were successful in preventing new restrictions this year in the legislature and this recall election only helps.

Brains or fear?   Seems like now would be a good time for a Republican to submit a bill repealing the laws.  The dems have to be quaking in their shoes right now...

President Clinton warned the Democrats about that damn gun control legislation. This is just of sign of what's coming in the 2014 elections as predicted by Clinton. When the Senate is controlled by the Republicans in 2014, Obama will either be moving to his new house out here before the end of 2014 or he'll be on his way to the Big House behind bars.

230RN, didn't notice at first that you're from Colorado.  Congratulations on the great victory.  We are pleased to celebrate with you.

I thank you, Tom, on behalf of the actual "soldiers" who went door-to-door and ran around doing the nitty-gritty shit like running materials to the printers and stapling literature and handing out flyers as well as the original planners of this battle.  I myself did what little I could, not being a voter in those counties.

Hey, that reminds me.... keep in mind the next time one of your elections come up that it's that nitty-gritty shit that counts so much in winning.  Just throwing a couple of bucks toward the candidate or issue that you favor helps, but getting down to the headquarters and volunteering for that stuff, including just answering the phones and keeping pencils sharpened is very important.

Along this line, bear in mind that the "opposition" usually has large numbers of volunteers, like college students, illegal aliens, and soccer moms, etc., who have the time to help out the opposition and drag people to the polls.

But you and the guy you met at the range last weekend have livings to make and jobs to go to, which puts us at a distinct disadvantage.  So do what you can physically and time-wise, but do it.  Also, it might just pay to join the opposition party and get "interesting" literature from them.  "Keep your friends close and..."

"...your enemies closer."

Also, in browsing around, I made the interesting discovery that only 19 States have recall provisions, but they don't need a "reason," like treason or malfeasance, to initiate a recall petition and process.  Now, that's off the net, without me digging out sources for it, so take it for what it's worth, and let's face it, you don't have to research every State, just your own, to find out if recalls are permitted in Hawaii.  Maybe it's still there, like common law, from the days of Hawaii being a Kingdom or something --who knows?  (Colorado's recall law was adopted in the early 20th century.)

Anyhow, thanks for your good wishes, even though I myself could not do a whole hell of a lot, not being from either of those counties, and almost 200 miles away to boot.

Here is some interesting analysis on the recall from Steve Schmidt, Chuck Todd and James Carville.   Worth watching.  Carville explains the background check poll numbers and the colorado recall.

"The message here is people who are against gun control are really against it and they never forget.  People who are for it say "'sounds reasonable to me' and then move on"....So you don't get credit from one side and get all the blame from the other.
