That is a great explanation as to why ranges have this & that rules. They have to accommodate people with a wide variety of experience, which in the video that girl had none, and so did her boyfriend who was supposed to be her mentor.

I would like to feel safe when shooting at a range.  Yet most times I go, I see people doing unsafe things.  These vary in severity, but nonetheless, it's a rare trip indeed when I don't see something that engages the fight or flight response to some degree.

Now, this isn't unique to the range.  It happens when I'm around people in cars with far greater frequency and severity.  But there is a commonality here: someone else is in control of a tool that could be used to maim or kill me with no warning.  And intent isn't required... simple inattention or ignorance could be the cause of my misfortune.

So, yes, the Constitution says "shall not be infringed."  The Declaration of Independence also recognizes my inalienable right to life.  If the people next to me, through inattention, ignorance, or ill-will, see fit to threaten my right to life, I am all in favor of infringing on them a bit.

Do all of the rules at the public range here make sense?  Nope.  But that is what happens when anyone other than me is in charge of making rules.  One day, I'll step up to my rightful place as god emperor of the universe and set all this crap straight.  And by straight, what I really mean is I get to do whatever I want whenever I want, and anyone who happens to get in my way at the time will be instantly un-created.  Poof!  But, to be honest, that's an awful lot of focused attention, and I'd rather just relax for one more day.

So, sure, I'll put up with a few silly rules.  I'd sure hate to have to wake up.

I personally think that if they raised the round limit to 10 it would not be a problem, and would allow those of us who use stripper clips to store our 5.56/.223 ammo to use the magazine chargers like they were meant to be used.

The fact that the RSO's at KHSC are not armed is beyond crazy to me. :wtf: Never went to a range in the liberal utopia of Southern California that did NOT have armed RSO's. Same thing goes for some of the gunshops on Oahu.

I personally don't have many complaints.  Ive been to ranges all over the US and can honestly say that koko head is one of the finest, if not the #1 range ive ever been to.  Its ease of use, fact that its free, and commitment to safety portrayed by the range officers makes for one hell of a range.  Not to mention the little things like sand bags, brass bins/brooms, handrests, plinking/archery ranges, soap in the bathroom (personal fav), and free parking.

The reason I think rules are in place at the range is the same reason why we have dumb rules in the military: one or a few idiots decided to do something stupid and screw it up for everyone, which is why we can't have nice things

I think, the purpose or intent of Rules/laws in general are to avoid chaos....whether it is good or bad rules.  Can you imagine if we do not have laws in general? People would be doing whatever they want whether they are right, wrong, honest, have common sense, dumb, smart, careful, ugly, etc, etc, etc. The problem is, once Rules/laws are in place, they are hard or impossible to undo, except certain things with sunset clause ( assault wepaon ban 1994).  The way to go is to have/ or go to a private range where rules are a liitle bit more relaxed.   Public ranges since owned by county/state are more worried about liabilities, etc.
